I don’t understand the Robert California and Nellie dynamic. Why is he seemingly afraid of her when she comes to Scranton? He’s the CEO, Jo Bennet is gone, just tell Nellie she’s not the manager. Why have this storyline play out for these few episodes at all? Note - I did enjoy Nellie’s intro speech in Florida for the special project. That was real good. But alkost everything after that until a point I can’t remember is just awful
Edit: Robert mumbles something about Jo Bennett being his boss. So he talked her out of her job but she now owns the company? Or maybe she always did and I missed it. None of this makes any sense and I’m beyond caring. I also realize I have no memory of why / how David Wallace comes back into the picture for season 9 and what makes Robert leave. Weird
David makes a shitload of money off Suck-It, then Andy, having been fired by Robert after refusing to accept anything less than his manager’s position, convinces David to buy back Dunder-Mifflin (and I think possibly buys Sabre from Jo, essentially ending the merger). Robert leaves because that position becomes unavailable with David refilling the role of CEO/CFO or whatever, but, of course, convinces David to fund his sexual excursions overseas in the name of “educating” young, disadvantaged women.
I also noticed this last time I watched that season. It’s almost like they had the season more or less planned out with Michael before Steve Carell left and they just subbed in Andy, lol.
I liked pretty much everything about the Florida episodes. Not one second of Scranton Nellie though lol
Erin dressed like a hipster dancing in front of the homeless camp is an underrated gem of a moment for her character and season 8
She has some pretty funny lines but for some unexplainable reason I just absolutely hate the character and find her insufferable lol
Watching Sexual Harassment last night and realized Pam’s mom was originally played by a different actress than in season 6
That’s amazing. I have the majority of 2-4 locked down and portions of 5-7. Seasons 8 and 9 I’ve only watched maybe three times each (maybe only twice, actually). They happened during a busy / weird time in my life and the group I normally watched and talked about the show with disbanded as we all moved across the country. It’s still kind of weird to watch now remembering how different it was to watch on my own, alone, instead of with 4 other people. Also since 8 and 9 aren’t the greatest I didn’t have much incentive to revisit them like the others lol
I would say that I have definitely seen 8 and 9 a good fewer times, but I still remember nearly the whole series pretty well. I started watching alone back in high school and fondly remember getting the first 4 or 5 seasons on a very successful Black Friday. I would legit watch episodes alone or with my best friend till we’d fall asleep some nights. I’d wake up a couple times a night to the PlayStation running hot from overuse and the menu screen playing the same clips over and over, but was too lazy to go shut it off. Then got married down the road to someone equally obsessed and we’ve been rewatching episodes probably close to 10-20 episodes a week (often with us doing stuff around the house or with the kids with it playing in the background). It’s been a constant staple in my life, including the less than stellar later seasons. If Netflix/NBC ever fall out and they come off Netflix, it’ll be a sad day in my house lol.
I love people’s backstories to how they get started on shows. I owe The Office (and Scrubs) to a former coworker in high school. From there somehow I ended up showing it to my girlfriend and two best friends and we were all hooked. I remember being surprised and overjoyed that they liked it. We enjoyed the same type of stuff but never watched a show together before. The Office changed all that. During the rest of senior year and then in the 5-6 years after that we always would randomly throw a disc in and watch over and over again. It never got old and we never really thought of trying another show. Movies yes, but it was always The Office for a tv show. Even through moves and roommates and cities, we somehow were always fucking watching this lol. Even on flights we’d have the damn portable DVD player and a couple of seasons along to get us through. Great great times.
That’s awesome. My household has come to an agreement that no other show will come close to capturing the magic that the first few season of this show achieved. We basically don’t want to spend time watching other things most nights in case it winds up being bad and a waste of time when we know we’ve got the always reliable Office.
Holy fuck... Where does the conference room table go when they have rows of chairs in the conference room? Does it come apart in the middle / fold up? Have they always had that long oval table? HOLY FUCK
Now I feel weird for knowing all the same information as @oncenowagain lol But then again, my girlfriend and I have cycled through the show probably 3 or 4 times in the past few months
I love the Jim / Dwight relationship in “Turf War”. One of those rare times we see them enjoy each other and act at times like brothers and almost a weird father / son dynamic at other times while Jim still slightly mocks Dwight, but in a carefree way. Dwight: “Jim, tell Andy where he can put his grapes.” Jim: “in the fridge!” Dwight: “No, Jim, the answer was his butt. You see, when someone says...”
It is so fucking weird how they make Andy a huge asshole in season 9. I’m not a fan of Nellie so him being a shithead to her doesn’t really bother me, but I can clearly see why it ruins him for other people. Also, Wallace remains an awful boss lol He sends Andy away for a MONTH - so a branch operates without a manager for a MONTH with no lingering effects and then later when he does his boat vacation thing Wallace doesn’t even notice he’s gone. As Deangelo says, “this job is a joke”.
i am actually shocked that by now i don't have any DM swag. i've always wanted a michael scott's dunder mifflin scranton meredith palmer memorial celebrity rabies awareness pro am fun run race for the cure t-shirt
