Haha the one of everything was the first thing I thought of when I heard about that. There better be one. They also have to have screwdrivers (but whatever michael called them when he thought he invented them). I have to go to that. I always say I'm going to go to these pop ups and I never do, but I can't miss this one.
"Scotch and Splenda. Tastes like Splenda, gets you drunk like Scotch." Or the Nog-a-sake (eggnog and saki)
was gonna say, they better have Splenda. they also better have bagel bites, cups of maraschino cherries tuna sandwiches and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. and egg salad sandwiches! ("could you think of a smellier thing to bring on a plane, Oscar? do you have a bag of baby poop in there too?")
Yeah the show really seemed to go back and forth between Dwight being a pretty damn smart dude to a moronic child. Must depend on who happened to be writing for the episode.
They could also make a Michael Scott cocktail that's literally just milk and sugar with something alcoholic, from when Pam takes a sip of his "coffee" when they start up the Michael Scott Paper Co.
i'm sure someone much better suited for it than i has already done it, but i'm gonna start my rewatch over and do some tracking / rankings because of things like this. i remember reading that episodes that Mindy Kaling wrote usually had Jim being more doofus-like than Dwight or others to make him seem more like his co-workers whereas other writers really built him up as the sane / straight comedic relief. also, and i've said this for years, i want to rank the cold opens. i feel like it will be super difficult to come up with a top 10 so maybe i'd do more of a "best / better / good / poor". not sure if any cold open could top the fire drill and / or Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica but it'll be fun to find out.
Damn. Didn’t realize the fire drill cold open was in season 5 for “Stress Relief”. Episode in general is pretty fantastic except for the total left field what the fuck awful story of the bootleg movie Jim/Pam/Andy viewing and then the serious Pam parent issues. Totally brings the episode down.
In context, this was the episode that aired after the Super Bowl in 2009 (networks that carry the game usually pick a hit show for the ratings boost and make it special). They went the extra mile for the fire drill to draw in would-be new viewers. The addition of powerhouse talents like Jack Black, Jessica Alba, and Cloris Leachman hoped to keep audiences glued. It remains the highest rated episode.
Hahaha hey, don't speak negatively of the beautiful couple Cloris Leachman and Jack Black make Seriously tho, I got a big kick out of Andy constantly misunderstanding Jim and Pam's side convo during the movie and feeling like he's an idiot not understanding the film heh.
I do get chuckles from that as well, but the rest is just meh for me. It’s one of those scenes / moments where I can get up and walk to the fridge or whatever. Usually I pause because I don’t want to miss a look or a line, but in these scenes I just let it play
By the way, I googled “worst Office episodes” and some sites / people have some straaaaaaaaange opinions on what makes a bad episode. A lot of reason I’m seeing is “it’s too awkward to watch!” I guess that’s a reason but that’s the logic / heart of most of the scenes for the whole series. Bad episodes to me are for lackluster writing, limited jokes, nothing memorable in them, not because Michael is super awkward and gives a hideous speech in front of people. Different strokes tho
