Definitely wouldn’t have been sold on “Back In The Van” as a closer had I not read the post below. I think it’s a perfect way to describe the album ending on that note, despite “Coffees And Cigarettes” being the perfect “closer”
I feel like this would be a top five record for me this year if they'd put it out in the middle of summer. Still really like it, but I would have played the shit out of it in July/August.
Yeah I still stand by the “end credits” statement... it’s like the album is a emotional journey through a period of growth in Martin’s life, and “Back in the Van” is the sound of coming out the other side of that with a renewed love for life. The perfect closer imo
I also ended up playin' the remix version of Outfield more than the original, haha. Love the extra bombastic drums.
Yeah, this feels like one that come next summer, I'm going to look at my list and go "why wasn't this higher." Given that, I'm going to put it higher. I love this album.
It's still in my top 15, but I just didn't really have the "summer soundtrack" album this year, and this would have been so perfect. I can imagine myself bringing this back into rotation in a big way come May or June.
Speaking of wrong "The Outfield" lines... the lyrics say "hard to get" at the end of the bridge, but when it echoes out it sounds just like he said "hard to guess."
This beautiful lyric video was released yesterday. I'm a sucker for videos with throwbacks like this, and I had chills and teared up at the photos of Martin with his mom (she passed when he was a child) especially during the lyrics "We'll always be together in the photograph". So glad he shared this with his fans, as they couldn't have chose anything more fitting.
I've been going through an extremely tough breakup these last couple of months, and watching that hit me hard; I pretty much started crying after the video finished. It's those lyrics. I still vividly remember everything; those important people in your life, you remember all those moments. Especially in a photograph
