Not long left until this is finally released. Early reviews seem to be very positive, for what it's worth. I'm excited.

After I finally see Keanu and I guess Civil War....this is the last movie I care about this year. Hope it doesn't disappoint.

  3. I'm really excited for this. All the trailers look great and the press that Gosling and Crowe have done have been hilarious.

Considering Shane Black was the writer for Lethal Weapon 1 & 2, did a solid job with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3 I am really looking forward to this.

This looks like a lot of fun. It's getting solid reviews so far too.

Really want to see this. I like the cast and Shane Black, so I hope it's at least as good as KKBB.

This looks like a lot of fun. I really enjoyed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. I haven't seen that in a while though.

Hahaha, the spoiler tagged thing. I saw a pre-screening of this myself last night, and I didn't really care for it. I couldn't really tell what vibe it was going for the whole time. Myself I only laughed a few times throughout; some of the bits that were supposed to be funny, I didn't really find all that funny. It was trying to be serious, but also trying to be funny; seems like they couldn't decide what way to go. Crowe and Gosling I thought had great chemistry together, and all the other actors/actresses were good too, but as an overall film I didn't get much from it.

    Misty Mountains tho

This was pretty funny and has lots of shades of "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," but it's definitely uneven and too long. Gosling's a hoot and Crowe's good, I hope they make more movies together.

I liked this and it was really fun, but it wasn't as great as it could have been.

Gosling and Crowe were both really good, but the story just wasn't that strong and the villains were just kind of lame.

I had a blast with this. Exactly the kind of fun I want from Shane Black.

Not quite as solid as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang but I enjoyed the hell out of it. Ryan Gosling is finally playing to his strengths instead of just mutely staring at people, and I love it. He's hilarious. The humor all worked for me and I enjoyed the whole ride even if the central mystery and directorial style didn't stand out as much as Kiss Kiss Bamg Bang did.

  15. Seeing this today over Neighbors 2, hope I'm making the right choice

Shane is definitely a great writer and Russell and Ryan were great, Shane also objectifies women a lot and I can never tell if he hates women, Holly was the only one who was genuinely good and cool (she had Blondie Sex Pistols and The Clash posters!), I couldn't tell if Amelia was supposed to be sympathetic at times

Fun movie. Loved the ankle gun scene.

He's using a pulpy context to explore masculinity, the ways in which it's alluring and also toxic. The objectification is overt, and while not an excuse for it, it's utilized as part of the genre. I don't think he hates women, exactly, I think the film is pretty nihilistic about people in general, except children.

I also don't think it's as simple as objectification for objectification's sake. The film opens with a little kid looking at a porn star's centerfold, and then we see her die, naked in front of him. It starts the whole central mystery. She's killed by both the porn industry and the justice department, a casualty of propping up the existing power structures, and in the end she's reduced to that objectification, naked in front of a helpless little boy, who holds the power for the future.

It was okay. Some of the gags were hit or miss, but Gosling was great.

Highly entertaining. Echoing the statements about Gosling's performance. The actress who played Holly was also great. Give a listen to Shane Black's appearance on the Writer's Panel podcast. He's engaging and honest - a refreshing listen to anyone interested in writing screenplays.
