Yeah, things really took a turn that I did not expect. I dug it!

I have trouble picking a favorite from her classic run of albums. They all have their own distinct appeal. For the Roses probably took the longest to click but then, when it did… And I loved “You Turn Me On, I’m a Radio” since I was a kid

Roses was next on my list. I obviously know Blue, and I know I’ve heard a few others over the years (my parents had a copy of Court & Spark at some point) but haven’t engaged with them fully. I did Court & Spark and Clouds yesterday, which felt like a good look at two different sides of her talents.

Yeah Clouds is a very nice album from a talented singer-songwriter who was about to go into a phone booth and emerge in a cape.

Elevated by the fact that it closes with one of the greatest songs ever written.

Exactly. Like she was like "okay I've done being a normal singer-songwriter as well as it can possibly be done...what's next?"

Some Rap Songs is the best album of the past 15 years, and it didn't even make the list?????

Not an album I'm particularly fond of, but maybe it's due for a revisit.

On the opposite end, it is no end of frustration to me that Dirty Computer has been canonized just because it's when a lot of people belatedly got into Monae, despite The Electric Lady being the clearly superior record and a straight-up masterpiece.

I do think it's interesting which albums they picked from certain artists. 1989 for Swift, because it's when a lot of people decided it was acceptable to listen to her, even though she's got a solid handful of stronger, more singular albums. Or The Nashville Sound for Isbell, an album I adore that I don't necessarily think is the best encapsulation of his gifts or his influence.

Weird list. Some undeniable all-timers. Some covers that never struck me as anything more than average. Some shit I think is hideous. I admire the troll move of putting Enema of the State at 69, though.

I went through this whole thread not realizing it's a three-year old thread by now.

Since it never came up, I assume no one will agree with me on this, but it would've been cool if Hybrid Theory made their albums list.

There would be a much better argument for it being on there than a lot of what did make it.

    They updated the list: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/best-albums-of-all-time-1062063/

"Editor’s note, December 2023: In the three years since Rolling Stone rolled out the all-new, fully revamped version of our 500 Greatest Albums list, artists like Beyonce, Bad Bunny, and Taylor Swift have all released undeniable classics. So we’ve updated the list, adding those albums while making a few other tweaks. We kept the update light; the 2020 list covered many decades of popular music, and was the result of a vote among more than 300 artists, writers, producers and industry figures; this update covers three years, from 2020 to 2023."

Putting an album that's been out less than 18 months in the top 100 of all time seems truly insane to me, but go off I guess!

“Undeniable classics in the last 3 years” it’s easily deniable! Too early to tell!

Yeah, it’s too soon. I’d entertain a 2020 pick I guess, because those peak pandemic albums feel like they have some extra significance, but 2022 should not be in the conversation yet.

Forgot how disgraceful that last update was.

This was a cowardly-ass update. They didn't even re-rank. Just swapped new ones in for one they felt they could cut.

For anyone interested in the changes:

    Harry Styles - Fine Line -----> Harry Styles - Harry's House (#491)
The Beach Boys - Today! ----> Black Uhuru - Red (#466)
Primal Scream - Screamadelica ---> Gorillaz - Demon Days (#437)
Elvis Costello - My Aim Is True ---> Bad Bunny - Un Verano Sin Ti (#430)
Sonic Youth - Goo ---> Olivia Rodrigo - Sour (#358)
Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure ---> SZA - SOS (#351)
The Rolling Stones - Aftermath ---> Burna Boy - African Giant (#330)
Cream - Disraeli Gears ---> Taylor Swift - Folklore (#170)
Bob Marley and The Wailers - Exodus ---> Beyonce - Renaissance (#71)
Bob Marley - Legend ---> Bob Marley and the Wailers - Exodus (#48)
