i fully agree. i don’t agree with the methodology but it seems that’s what several of the people were thinking.

Realistically, how many lists do you think that Cudi album wound up on for it to crack the list? 2, just ranked in the top 20?

I understand that you like both hyperbole and antagonization, but having 60% the same and 80% of the top 5 the same doesn't usually make people say "my eyes are bleeding." I'm not mad I literally just asked.

Yeah, I ultimately don’t agree with either of those approaches. I get voting as advocacy, but if you think an album should be on there, put it on there—regardless of whether it will be a popular pick among others and regardless of how many other albums by that artist you have on your list.

I have also just never understood the “one song/album per artist” thing on most lists. If it’s a playlist, sure. If it’s a list of things you like, I think there’s a big pleasure to recognizing an artist with a really strong catalog.

I limited my top 10 of the decade to one album per artist because 1, everyone on here knows that Bon Iver and Kanye (ehh) and the Hotelier rule and 2, I did want my list to be a recommendation of my favorites that were not really talked about on the site

can I objectively say whether or not 22AM or Yeezus deserve to be on my personal list more than German Error Message? No, but GEM is overlooked and it’s also one of my favorite albums from the decade, so it made the list

With something like this, it’s probably going to be used as a guide for so many people just getting into the classics. Dropping off albums because an artist has a “better” one or because you assume someone else will...is silly

I think Chorus should do their own version. 50 albums per list (or 20/30 and do a top 200/300). I just don’t want to be in charge of tallying that up

the ballot said "vote for your 50 favorite albums" not "vote for the 50 albums you think are the greatest"

    so that's what i did

If Chorus does their own list Blink will probably make the top of the list or top 10 haha

leaking my ballot to the internet

my regrets include: there is like no rap on here and i should've actively fought against most people's v corny rap picks on this list, not that it would've mattered because there were like 500000000 voters

Was bummed to see that The Blue Nile didn't make it. But this makes the list so much more confusing to me. How many people put the Kid Cudi album in their top 50 of all time?????????

I got into a spirited discussion with my Album club yesterday because I came in hot about Cudi, Billie and Harry Styles being on the list. They insisted that the Harry Styles album is a classic and said that it "flowed" like no other album they'd heard and that it is good as an "album" instead of just random tracks.

When I asked them if they listened to the artists on the list in the top 10, they said yes but just random tracks, haha. I gave them some homework during the week to pick a few albums from the list and listen to them in full so that they can hear that other artist sequence their albums in cohesive ways as well.

It was interesting to hear that even kids who call themselves music fans still digest music in a far different method than I used to. They hear that the Beatles are good, they search them and play the most famous 2-3 songs and go "yeah I guess so". Harry Styles drops a new album and they want to listen to the entire thing, so he is more cohesive or interesting than the artist they heard stray tracks from.

One album per artist on a top 10 makes more sense. I think my top 10 only had one repeat. But for a top 50, I’d have probably 5-6 artists with multiple albums on there.

Huh, well now I’m more confused. Haha

The Harry and Cudi albums making it remind me of how like, Rock Steady by No Doubt made the first list. Just super random picks that almost certainly will not age well.

I listened to a few Harry Styles songs yesterday. They're fine, whatever. I don't know why that's the pick I take most umbrage with, but......it's nine months old lol. Gotta let this stuff marinate at least a little bit.

Yeah the record is not bad. Cherry is a great song. It's just...like you said. 9 months old. The Cudi album is more egregious imo (and LDR but that's another can of worms). Billie Eilish too, but of the trendy picks I guess that one makes the most sense?

the billie eilish inclusion is both smart (great record, hit like a bomb when it arrived and changed the pop landscape around it) and silly (she's going to make better records)

There probably should have been some sort of “albums must be at least one year old” rule or something.

Any ideas for the rules? You wanna do 500? 300? 250?
Whatever the number is, each individual list is 10% of the main number (500 - top 50; 300 - top 30 etc.)

I think Nevermind's time is almost up. I'm surprised it's still in the top 10.
