Cringed a bit at the "she's hot" gag heh. Feel like they're trying to go a little more light-hearted than the initial trailers led to believe, but then there are some genuine horror moments in here, so idfk what to expect 99% chance I watch it, though lol
Wait, "in theaters" on August 28th? I thought this was straight to Disney+? EDIT Ah, looks like they may be contractually bound to put it in theaters before VOD The New Mutants Director Josh Boone on a Possible Streaming Release | Den of Geek
Yeah this was never going to Disney+. People just keep making fake reports and videos saying it is cause the internet is a bad place full of misinformation.
This movie is somehow almost out. All it needed, apparently, was for the rest of the industry to collapse first. First good look at Lockheed in this teaser:
I mean, from what I remember hearing, Boone filmed this as a horror inspired Superhero movie. Then Fox came in, delayed it for the first time, and demanded reshoots to cut down some of the horror elements. Those Reshoots never actually happened, and I had seen a quote from Boone essentially saying “this is my original vision being released”. No clue how far Horror it actually leans, but all the studio meddling talk has been way overblown.
Cool to see this casting finally get a little of its due negative attention. Some people on Twitter talked about it when it first happened a few years ago, but I feel like most people have overlooked it & instead focused on "oh my gosh, like, look how late the movie is!" I'll still watch this, knowing that it ain't about to get a sequel & this bad casting ain't about to continue past this film. Not expecting anything great anyways, & just wanna enjoy some Magik, Lockheed, & Demon Bear. But, this has been such a shitty, unnecessary blemish. And, a lot of my pity for Josh Boone is lessened by seeing how flippant he is here, especially now. Here's some of why this is bad, if you don't know:
fuck this guy and his shitty movie, I'm glad it's going to bomb too now Like the casting was bad enough on its own but studio pressure is definitely a thing and if someone had told me that casting these actors wasn't fully Boone's decision then I probably would've believed them. But for him to take ownership over the decision like this, and in this tone, that's trash.
