Damn remember that one site we would all use where like 3-5 people would be DJs and would take turns playing songs for everyone in the chat, and if enough people bood the song then it would skip to the next person and you would get kicked out of your DJ spot? It would’ve been like 2011-2012 or something. That was probably the peak of AP for me, both in terms of how much I liked it and how much time I spent on it lol edit: I guess this belongs more in the other thread rn but w/e
Whatever happened to Ghostyouare Trevor? He was a total grump but warmed up to me by the end, I think
wow totally missed @Marx&Recreation posting Pottery, my bad. Also one of my favorites of the year! still gotta listen to Glintshake and the Kate NV album
i wish i found/enjoyed new music as much as I did in the ap days. most of my stuff now is retreading to the 2012-2016 era or just running through discographies of random bands. I've been so behind on my annual google docs of releases.
Misc stuff I’ve been big into the last few months. Happy to have this thread instead of creating album threads that disappear into the void or posting in my dumb pop thread
Lots of great stuff I would have shared in here already too! Helena Deland, Crack Cloud, Special Interest, Planet 1999 all rule sorry for the 3x post lol
This is the first year in forever where I’ve been regularly keeping up with new music. These days most stuff I listen to that’s new to me is from like the 70s/80s, often big artists that I just never really gave much attention to. Like Stevie Wonder has tons of albums and yet I’ve only listened to a fraction of them lol
right. even the new stuff i keep up with the last two years are just new albums by bands/musicians i’m still quite familiar with. most of my “new” discoveries are, like you said, older things that i missed. i can’t remember the last new contemporary discovery i had
Also to those who don’t remember the AP thread: “new” is less in reference to stuff currently coming out and more so “new to you,” so like some obscure art rock act from decades ago that you came across fits here too
Oh yeah I can’t imagine myself ever really “following” a new band like I did when I was younger. It’s more like “oh hey they came out with a new album last month, nice” lol
wish I could remember what the OP of the original said bc he did a good job explaining it. It was more of an emphasis on artists that never really get/got much attention anywhere, but were still trying to push boundaries and experiment in some way or another
I'm trying to remember the adored TNMT bands. Merchy, Gang Gang Dance, Xiu Xiu Speaking of Merchandise, this is the new band of the lead singer:
several Merchandise songs are still my favorites that I listen to regularly. Had to rip some of them off the internet bc Apple Music doesn’t even have them
Pretty sure the last record is the only one I listened to regularly but this song rules I did not know the singer had a new band, need to peep
