I'd say that's Boxer. It's a good middle ground between the angry older stuff and the mature newer stuff. They're all really great, though!
Unpopular opinion: I dig Sad Songs about as much as I do High Violet. On the fucked up power of 'Cardinal Song', 'Slipping Husband', 'Available' and 'Fashion Coat' alone.
One day we in this thread will talk about the weird racial and sexual things Matt B. has written and discuss if they're problematic or exploratory.
Slipped is ridiculously underrated. I really need a new album soon. These guys have put out maybe five less than great songs in 14 years.
Sad Songs is much better than High Violet. The quality of musicianship and production is higher on the latter but the songs are so much more interesting on SSFDL. Glad to see Fashion Coat get a shoutout, always felt like that one totally slipped under the radar. And the first three songs are up there with the best of their career.
I'm not stupid I swear, I read the foreign news to understand my nation You get two options in the You Estates Black city bloodbath or white country rape
I wouldn't say any album after their debut is much better than any other. Plus Bloodbuzz and England are perfect.
Not sure if anything will ever top JV and Sufjan jumping on stage with The National when it comes to personal live experiences. TWFM is my favorite.
