After I saw them in June, the first thing I said to my girlfriend was that I want them to experiment with electronic sounds on the next album.
Can't You Find A Way, Checking Out, It's Just the Lights, and Keep all seem to incorporate way more electronics than they typically do. The Day I Die and Sometimes I Don't Think all seem to be typical awesome National songs.
Once I save up for tattoos, I'm going to tattoo "Do not want to disappoint anyone" on my forearm. That's easily one of my favorite songs.
"When I said what I said, I didn't mean anything" is so heartbreaking. The whole song is. That's a great tattoo idea! But yeah, the whole song kind of detailing this relationship that's crumbling and a couple that bicker all the time but try to keep it together in public is so sad and eerily familiar for me.
I used to really want mwY tattoos (and still am not opposed to that idea as much as I am to the idea of getting a tattoo) but I feel like if I had to pick a band now to get put on my body it'd be the National. "I'll explain everything to the geeks," "it went the dull and wicked ordinary way," "there's a science to walking through windows".... all infinitely quotable, and there are dozens more.
The other band I have tattoos planned for is mwY! What ideas do you have, because all of mine are Ten Stories based. Also the National has millions of just great quotes.
"Holds without hands, speaks without sounds," "i do not exist, only you exist," "this is not the first time G-d has died", etc. There are too many to pick from.
"You'll know where to find us, our best years behind us..." For MWY "I loved you for 29 years..." For The National
"I was comin' back from what seemed like a ruin. I couldn't see you comin so far, I just turn around, and there you are I'm so surprised you want to dance with me now, I was just gettin used to livin life without you around I'm so surprised you want to dance with me now, you always said I held you way too high off the ground" This whole part right here Is dope Please don't tattoo the whole thing to yourself tho
Spent most of today with this and The Light on repeat again. How does this band just keep getting better seven albums in? Absolute freaks of nature.
