Gonna be hard as hell, but think I'm going to try to not listen to any singles before the release. Want to hear the whole thing at once.
can anyone help me out? I remember reading a really long feature on High Violet from like 2010 and I'm trying to find it. I thought it was Paste? and I remember reading it on an archive but I'm not positive
Just noticed on "Racing Like A Pro" that Matt says "you're shooting up the ladder", a reference to Chutes and Ladders. Can't believe I never noticed that before.
Happy Boxer Day I can’t think of another album that has helped me get through times of joy, of sadness, or downright introspection. The lyrics, the music, the production… Modern Masterpiece.
Ha, it's a line about someone succeeding over the narrator in life, maybe in a career yet is still new/out of their element.
...the back half of TN is so underrated, Theory of the Crows/Bitters & Absolut/Anna Freud are some of Matt's best.
Same goes with the back half of Sad Songs... Available is of course great (in my top 10), but Sugar Wife/Fashion Coat/Patterns/Lucky You are so so great. Sugar Wife and Lucky have 2 of my favorite Matt lines of all time.
I've really grown to love this album over the years, there's always a different song I grow attached to every time I revisit Sad Songs. Right now the song is Trophy Wives, I really love the way Matt sings "I don't wanna be what I'm becoming" on the last verse. It's kind of haunting yet nonchalant at the same time.
