I love this record. Can't wait for mine to arrive this week. I really enjoyed "Hard to Find" and I feel like there are a lot of moments on this record that remind me of that song, where there's a ton of room for the lyrics and melody to breathe.

I'll take TWFM but better. That's not my favorite National album but that doesn't mean it's all that short of excellence.

 

Which is astounding considering that's easily a bottom three song on the record (upon first listen).

 

Well, fuck me, this might be their best.

I only listened once, yesterday in the car on the way to see U2. Not sure it was quite the right vibe. I'll try again once I get back to my usual schedule in the next few days.

I will say that "Day I Die" was immediately one of my favorite National songs.

Day I Die, System, I'll Still Destroy You, Guilty Party, Dark Side, and title track were immediate highlights. So half the album haha

 

Are they playing the Philly show tomorrow night or is it just a first listen to the record?

Really enjoying the production on these singles.

 

Goddamn the closer is perfect. Tied with Vanderlyle for my favorite.

 

These reactions are making it very difficult to wait until Friday

 

so after multiple listens I think my least favorite song here is Empire Line (still great tho)
and my favorite is Dark Side of the Gym (I'm dancing to this at my wedding, what a song)

 

I did a good job staying away from the internet this weekend. This is great news. Can't wait to listen this evening.
