I'm starting a new job and I've been driving an hour and a half to where the corporate office is for training, which has actually given me a chance to catch up on music I haven't had time to listen to properly. Just now this morning I finally caught up with Trouble Will Find Me.

I bought it years ago around the time it was released but had only sampled it for whatever reason. It is strange because I had gotten into them around the release of Boxer, dove into and enjoyed their earlier releases, and then anticipated and enjoyed High Violet immensely upon release. I can remember attempting to give Trouble Will Find Me a listen and just not connecting with it.

Well I finally fixed that and gave it a couple full listens through between yesterday and today. It's a phenomenal album. I know a lot of people have said it is their best but at this point I think I would still put Boxer and High Violet ahead of it. There are a couple of songs on it that I still don't care for, where the only faults I have with Boxer and High Violet are good songs that didn't make the album. I am gonna listen to it a few more times at least as I'm doing that same drive for the rest of this week, so there's a good chance I'll eat my words in a few days.

Special shout out to This Is The Last Time - possibly my favorite song on here. Musically, I'm not even sure what instruments I'm hearing but it's incredible. And I am usually one to prefer faster more uptempo songs. So far I am 3/3 with loving songs from Sleep Well Beast, so needless to say I am really looking forward to this.

Neither of those are really hot takes, honestly

 

I'm not convinced of either to be honest. I'd say it definitely has a shot at both, but I don't think either is a given at this point. I'll happily eat my words in a few weeks if I'm wrong.

The National is a very good band and Sleep Well Beast will most likely be a very good album filled with very good songs.

i saw this earlier and didn't realize it was an actual philly show and i was too swept up by brand new i didn't buy them oops

 

got so used to non-stop brand new notifications/popping in that thread for a second i thought that was about brand new
