An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I like this a lot but it feels like a Big Red Machine song with Matt on vocals

can we let Bryan off the chain again please

it makes sense to have a bit of a more somber one, especially when it’s a collab, for the first single. even SWB still had day i die, system only sleeps and turtleneck haha

Sounds like 00s U2. So sick of National piano lol but Matt’s lyrics aren’t bad and his voice sounds good. Agreed, let Bryan go off, I’m begging you. Between this and some of the live songs I’ve heard, songs have too many choruses in them.

Hmmm. I don’t love this. Was really hoping for a big swerve. This feels safe, just a continuation of IAETF. I’m a huge SWB fan, that record has more in common with Boxer than this.

I like this but it 100% sounds like a big red machine song with Matt.

i love that they said this record is gonna be just the five of them rocking out and their lead single is a piano driven collaboration lol.

Huge Sleep Well Beast fan, but this sounds like a lower tier Sleep Well Beast song. It’s definitely solid and I really didn’t pay much attention to the lyrics on first listen, so not writing off the direction or room to grow on me but this doesn’t build my hype for the record much.

carried in the arms of cheerleaders

I like it (I like pretty much everything this band does) but I agree that it feels a bit boilerplate. The chorus really saves it.

  18. This is good but it kind of feels more like a side project than a national song. The verses are also pretty paint by the numbers and are ho hum

  19. it’s my favorite National record!

  22. I'd say it's a safe bet to be on the record, no way you don't put a Bon Iver collab on there??

    Do You Remember?

I mean, it’s not hard to imagine National fans sending the people who manage their marketing list angry messages with screencaps of past email blasts and the subject line “YOU SAID ALL THE SONGS YIURE PLAYING LIVE WOULD BE ON THE ALBUM THIS IS FRAUD I WANT MY VINYL FOR FREE”.
