Same tbh. HV is good and has some of my favorite National songs, but sometimes it feels like a slog to get through. I like it viewed as the National’s take on arena rock. Terrible Love, Bloodbuzz, Afraid of Everyone, Conversation 16, Lemonworld, and Vanderlyle all rule.
1. Pink Rabbits 2. Slow Show 3. The Geese of Beverly Road 4. Afraid of Everyone 5. I'll Still Destroy You
I thought everyone hated Anyone's Ghost the most off that album but yeah Runaway doesn't do all that much for me
Not into Anyone’s Ghost. Like the imagery in Sorrow’s lyrics but not that into the song as a whole. Little Faith is weird, kinda dig it, it feels like it should be more of a highlight than it is. I personally enjoy the specific type of boring that Runaway is.
Yea looking at the track list I can’t really pick anything else. Not a bad track by any means just a the weakest link.
I’ve never loved Terrible Love and always wished they had used the alternate version instead on the album
Terrible Love is not only my favorite National song but one of my favorite rock songs period, that is a truly stunning take haha. I do get that not everyone likes that version of the band though
I think using the demo version for the album is one of the best choices they made on high violet. Also would put anyone’s ghost pretty high in my rankings on that album. Little faith and sorrow are the ones I feel are pretty much crap.
Runaway, England, and Vanderlyle are a harrowing glimpse into an alternate reality where the National completely misunderstand their own strengths and try to co-headline arenas with Mumford and Sons.
This discussion is nuts. I love it I really like the alternate version of Terrible Love. So much that I have a playlist that is just High Violet, but with the Terrible Love alternate version instead of the regular one.
