This would be hands down the best National record: You Had Your Soul With You Quiet Light Oblivians The Pull of You I Am Easy to Find Where is Her Head Not in Kansas So Far, So Fast Rylan Light Years
Not In Kansas is fucking awesome. I want the longer version with like 27 more verses haha. That's the only song though where I kinda wish it was just Matt singing and not the other people. Also: 1. You Had Your Soul With You 2. Quiet Light 3. Roman Holiday 4. Rylan 5. The Pull of You 6. Hey Rosey 7. I Am Easy To Find 8. Where Is Her Head 9. Not In Kansas 10. Hairpin Turns 11. Oblivions 12. So Far So Fast
I really love Not in Kansas but the alt-right opium part almost wrecks the whole song for me. It’s a shade too corny for me.
It’s one of their weaker records. Mainly because their discography is so great. But this record isn’t better than Boxer, Alligator, High Violet, Sleep Well Beast or Trouble Will Find Me. It’s just not, and that’s ok. It’s got some great songs and it could have used some trimming. I agree with that tracklist posted earlier in the thread. Cut 3-4 songs and this thing is much leaner and more focused. I’d cut “So Far So Fast” and put in “Hairpin Turns”. 10 tracks, I think the instrumentals in this case are unnecessary bloat. 1. You Had Your Soul With You 2. Quiet Light 3. Oblivion’s 4. The Pull of You 5. I Am Easy to Find 6. Not in Kansas 7. Where is Her Head 8. Hairpin Turns 9. Rylan 10. Light Years
This is their second or third best record and those who think otherwise are jamokes clinging onto their memories of their younger selves i'm joking but i'm not
This record is maximal-ist National, they turned everything up to 11 and then some, but that's why I love it.
I think this is an absolutely incredible album, but I don't think it is their best. It absolutely keeps their streak of masterpieces going though. What are the chances we hear some of the more "rocking out" songs that didn't make the cut at some point.....???
