Top tier National Songs from this record: -So Far So Fast (where Lisa literally sounds like God) -Rylan -Pull of You -Quiet Light -Light Years Good National songs from this album: -Not in Kansas -Where is Her Head -title track the rest range from alright to forgettable to maybe even kinda bad, to me.
In the edit I made a while ago I put a string of Rylan>Light Years>Not in Kansas>So Far So Fast to close the record so it doesn't clog up the middle. (Spotify link here) honestly sometimes you just gotta make your own AOTY when no one made it for you.
Listening to this for the first time since probably June and it still isn’t doing a whole lot for me. I like how it starts off with the first four songs, but the album starts to take a dive with The Pull Of You. I enjoy Where Is Her Head, but then the album goes back under for me. Not In Kansas doesn’t do a whole lot for me. So Far So Fast is up next.
if this isn't my favorite record of last year (some days it is) it is absolutely my most listened to record of last year, if not the past few years. love it to pieces
I went back to it for the first time in a while last week and it's just astonishingly good. I still sometimes can't believe they made this record at this point in their career. It would have been so easy for them to settle after Trouble Will Find Me but instead they made what I consider to be their two most interesting records yet.
I agree, I think they really kept themselves fresh and surprising when they very easily could have made the same record a few times (and I probably still would have really liked them, but not this much)
So the amazing Bartees Strange is devoting much of his forthcoming debut EP to covering these guys and his take on About Today is devastatingly beautiful. Fuck.
