It's the way you say yes when I ask you to marry me You don't know what you are doing Do you think you can carry me over this threshold Over and over again until oblivion?
If the sadness of life makes you tired And the failures of man make you sigh You can look to the time soon arriving When this noble experiment Winds down and calls it a day this part is unexplainably beautiful
this is apparently the full list on who guests on which song. from reddit so take with grain of salt YHYSWY: Gail Ann Dorsey Quiet Light (score): Gail Ann Dorsey, Eve Owen, Diane Sorel Roman Holiday: Gail Ann Dorsey Oblivions: Mina Tindle The Pull of You: Lisa Hannigan, Sharon van Etten Hey Rosey: Gail Ann Dorsey IAETF: Kate Stables Her Father In the Pool/Dust Swirls In Strange Light/Underwater: Brooklyn Youth Chorus Where Is Her Head: Eve Owen Not In Kansas: Gail Ann Dorsey, Lisa Hannigan, Kate Stables So Far So Fast: Lisa Hannigan Hairpin Turns: Gail Ann Dorsey, Lisa Hannigan Rylan: Kate Stables
"Not In Kansas" is just jaw-dropping, so much going on in that song lyrically. They've really gone and outdone themselves with this album god damn.
Yeah and I think I read that a lot of these songs were like... leftovers from previous recording sessions?
Rylan dates back to 2013/TWFM sessions, yeah. About half the other stuff has been kicking around as long as SWB they just didn't feel right releasing it after Trump (The Pull of You and So Far So Fast at the least were written then), with all those songs getting reworked and the other half being written after Mills got involved in the sessions I got basically all that from here, good read Mike Mills, Alicia Vikander, and The National Made the Most Beautiful Visual Album of All Time – IndieWire
Quiet Light, The Pull of You/Sometimes I Don't Think, So Far So Fast & Light Years were all debuted on the Sleep Well Beast tour; Rylan has been kicking around since before Trouble Will Find Me; the rest is brand new stuff I believe.
