That was my least favorite moment on the album until I mentioned it to someone that once lived in the Midwest (and up to that point didn't like the National!) - he was actually moved by the line.

and for them to actually connect with someone in the Midwest is more important than what I have to say lol

Probably the worst album of the year

 

i'm on third listen and even though this record is a little more ballad-forward than i was expecting or hoping, i've been on the verge of tears on every song. even looking beyond how incredible the music is, i think this album contains the best lyrics berninger and besser have ever written. what a remarkable body of work this album is and what a remarkable body of work they've amassed as a band over the years. damn

 

Just watched the film and am a total mess

 

There is so much R.E.M. influence on this. I love it.

I don't understand this because I've not listened yet but 'best National chorus ever' has my attention.

 

I’m exaggerating but boy is it a good chorus. AND IT ONLY COMES ONCE so enjoy it while it lasts...

Man first listen through and this record really transports you to a higher state of being at some points

 

I still can’t believe this is the record they made
