That was my least favorite moment on the album until I mentioned it to someone that once lived in the Midwest (and up to that point didn't like the National!) - he was actually moved by the line. and for them to actually connect with someone in the Midwest is more important than what I have to say lol
i'm on third listen and even though this record is a little more ballad-forward than i was expecting or hoping, i've been on the verge of tears on every song. even looking beyond how incredible the music is, i think this album contains the best lyrics berninger and besser have ever written. what a remarkable body of work this album is and what a remarkable body of work they've amassed as a band over the years. damn

Man first listen through and this record really transports you to a higher state of being at some points
