I think I like it more than most of IAETF tbh not because the album is bad but because the song is that good. Reminds me a weird amount of "Shiny Happy People" with Aron Dyer playing Kate Pierson
It’s really good - way better than I expected for a promotional album. But I’d still rank it way below the two IAETF singles.
Yeah song is good but nowhere near what’s been released for this record, glad it’s not an album cut tbh
"Turn On Me" is just more immediately enjoyable - IAETF is objectively better but it's so. much. work. and even people I know who love the National have told me point blank that they don't have time for that investment (which is my biggest problem with the album - listening to 70 minutes of ballads and 24 minutes of black and white short film as a bare minimum is frustrating. Like it should be your best album if you're doing that, but IAETF is nowhere near that mark.)
no I love it! I just see casual fans disliking it and folks like F*ntano bringing out the proverbial red flannel because you really have to put in the damn work with this thing. It's up to you whether the work is rewarded. (Also totally a 7.0 from Pitchfork)
The first couple listens were a little overwhelming to get to know the songs but I don’t think it feels as long as it actually is.
