The National’s ‘Alligator’ Turns 20 | Album Anniversary

 

Great piece about a great album! Though there are other The National albums that I think are better Alligator really is special and I think this piece perfectly describes how it's a document of a very specific and fleeting time in the band's history.

 

Last 5 songs are the peak of the band (or at the very least, the opening run of a peak that also includes Boxer). One of the clearest dividing lines for a level up you’ll ever see.

Anyone know if the single "Lean" ever had its own artwork? I could've sworn I saw an image for it years back, but I can't seem to find it now.

 

don't think so. don't think it was even released as a single - just part of the Catching Fire soundtrack

 

That's exactly where I got it, thrifted a couple weeks ago. It stands solidly in the output from the TWFM era.

 

There's a lot to take in here.

 

I loved these two albums. I need more from them, so this excites me.
