pretty interesting set of songs, Alphabet sounds a lot like Frankenstein and Space Invader is a totally different beast. makes me curious if the new album is notably different stylistically or if they just didn't want a super long album and split up their material in two either way Space Invader is my favourite song they've done since So Far So Fast, I'm very on board
Gotta be honest I was not confident these dudes had something like Space Invader in them anymore. Favorite thing they’ve released since SWB, easy. Alphabet City good too! Let’s go
Both singles are awesome. I particularly love the sound of the entire band kinda going nuts while Matt sings super low during the last few minutes of "Space Invaders", but "Alphabet City" is great too.
Two songs have me cautiously optimistic. Glad to see Bryan holding up a copy of today’s newspaper. instantly miles better than anything off FTPOF.
This, but penultimate track as opposed to closer. I love "Send For Me" and do not really care for the second low-energy Phoebe Bridgers feature on the album much at all.
“Space Invaders” rules, but this recent album didn’t need it to nail what it was trying to do. The simplicity and tightness that some couldn’t get into is kinda the point for that one, lol. I actually love the idea that they had a cool track like this but saved it for whatever else they have going on.
There are plenty of worn out jokes that could be told about bryan's drums being back...but god it's nice to hear it.
I sorta agree with this, but it's a bummer when the "whatever else" never pans out and sees the light of day, like with what happened around the time of IAETF, and we never get to hear those songs. Very excited that it's not the case this time around and we have these two tracks though, whether they are ultimately part of another album Laugh Track? or not.
I've listened to both songs like 7 times today and I honestly love them both. I am super into Alphabet City, it's got this hilariously menacing stalker undertone that has been missing from the last few albums. Instantly into these way more than anything of Frankenstein other than Eucalyptus.
“All of your lonesomeness kept in your wallet Nobody notices, baby, you got this” could be a line off Alligator
The band has asked me to keep this a secret but I can’t lie to my boys. Taylor plays the drums on Space Invader. :’-(
