I heard Space Invader live and loved it. Haven’t heard any of the other tracks but I can say that one is solid haha
For some reason two new singles this week sound more likely to me than an entire new album, but I'll guess we'll see.
weren't they teasing that Weird Goodbyes would end up on a second project this year? doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility
I think their austere, long-term commitment to making difficult albums every 3-4 years ended with I Am Easy to Find. Trying the Big Thief model for huge indie bands successfully dumping a ton of content on fans in a calendar year seems like something they’d give a go, especially if they had a creative renaissance on the other side of a multi-year COVID artistic block. Mark me as intrigued by these rumors.
tentative tracklist once again doesn't feature Weird Goodbyes. really hope that's wrong though, as i'd love to see it make the cut.
I like Weird Goodbyes just fine but with it having been out for so long now, I think it’d feel weird to include it.
There’s something kind of cool about it being a weird single that lives on as part of their encore set. Kind of an easy, inclusive ‘insider’ treat for more hardcore fans.
My friend is a huge fan of paper that is torn apart. He calls them rips. If anyone gets a hold of rips, can you please DM me so I can make my friend happy? Thank you.
If I knew a cool song or two were dropping tonight/tomorrow from a band that just released a full album not even four full months ago… idk, I’d probably just patiently wait for that official drop. Maybe I’m just built different.
I am asking for rips so I can delete them from the internet to teach people a lesson about patience, humility, and standing strong in their convictions even if no one else is brave enough to join you.
Both tracks are very good! Space Invaders has the drums everyone wanted. Not sure I love his delivery in Alphabet City but otherwise it’s a solid song.
I mean...it's not a life or death matter by any means. I'm seeing them on Fri where I imagine they might debut one or both so figure an extra day to familiarize myself with material would be a nice bonus. No problem if not.
VPN set to NZ + incognito window + YouTube.com will produce the goods. Alphabet City has that dark, dry feel of the High Violet b-sides. It’s an interesting choice as an album cut, if there is an actual album and this is on it. Perhaps this album will be a little darker in feel than Frankenstein. Space Invader sounds good. The transition from the song verses and the chorus/pre-chorus feels weirdly abrupt to me, which has been the case every time I’ve heard it. But it has drums and sounds more like classic National in its production than Frankenstein. If there’s an album, I want to hear it. Both songs feel like part of a more ‘whole is larger than the sum of its parts’ deep cut album like SWB.
