It's no SWB or TWFM but it's a really great listening experience. That album was there for me during a particularly rough patch in my life and I was happy to have it. I think I'll spin it now!
I prefer it to swb because swb came out at a really bad time in my life. IAETF came out when shit started to turn around and that album and father of the bride always remind that shit gets better. I would alternate listening to each one as I fell asleep at night for months.
The take on that album, from my experience, tends to be that it is either wonderful or excruciatingly boring, depending on who you ask. I’ve seen very little in between.
I wanna see a Venn Diagram of National fans who think High Violet is by far their best album and National fans who think IAETF is by far their worst album. My theory is that it’s a circle.
IAETF rules. we really gonna act like Oblivions isn't a top 10 National song? anyway psyched for this
High Violet is either my second favorite or third favorite depending on the day. It's definitely better than IAETF, though.
Some interesting tidbits in here. Sounds like they might not be doing an album release either? The National on new music: "It’s the whole history of the band, but with a new exploration"
I could be delusional, but I clearly remember the band saying that after SWB, we weren't getting music for a long time. Then *bam* like less than a year after that statement we have IAETF.
Not jazzed about seeing flyers and online banners a week before we can hear the song, in 2022 the age of surprise album drops and instant gratification, but I did enjoy the 19 second preview in that fan club email.
