I think I joined the National love train in 2009 but I’m going through my archives and can’t seem to find my love train ticket, does this mean I am allowed to like HV or not please explain
As someone who got into them with TWFM, I easily prefer the back half of their career. Weird goodbyes is good.
It’s basic “Live. Laugh. Love.” Mumford and Sons Pumpkin Spice mall National compared to their other music. They do much better versions of that kind of track when it’s less obvious and more moody like on Pink Rabbits or even Carin.
Got a little high tonight and wound up counting the number of National songs i like and i think it’s 58.
FYI HV is good and England isn’t the worst song ever. Just, in the context of discussing one’s all-time favorite band, there are plenty of hairs to split amongst fellow die-hards.
I was surprised how low it was. I think it’s a combination of A) listening to this band sooooooo much in my 20s and B) not listening to much sad dad indie rock anymore. I don’t wanna make it about them being bad or anything - they aren’t. It’s more me.
Another 'Paul' face showed up and this time it says 'Evil forebodings' (instead of 'Tranquilize the mind') . UPD: 'Evil forebodings' as well as 'Tranquilize the mind' comes from the Frankenstein quotes.
That’s fair, I was just making a joke more than anything else. Hope business is going well at Vandeley, Art
Trouble reigns for me mostly because of the specific time in my life it represents. But there are days where Boxer, HV and Sleep are right there with it.
Trouble was my introduction to them and pretty much owned my freshman year of college (and beyond). "This is the Last Time" holds a special place in my heart
TWFM was also my introduction to this band. That album, HV, and SWB are their holy trinity to me. I never quite got into Boxer and Alligator as much as others have, but they're both great albums. I just enjoy the sonic direction on HV, TWFM, and SWB more than their earlier stuff. Not a fan of IAETF though.
“Oh but your love is such a swamp” gets stuck in my head almost daily. One of their best songs, easily.
This is the Last Time was the song that unlocked the band for my wife who had been a National hater up until that point. Now they’re one of her favorite bands.
