Interesting bc I feel like how Schaffer talked about it in the recent Lonely Island Podcast ep, he intended to make it more of an action film parody than the noir/procedural tone that the original series had, both to make clear it wasn’t just a carbon copy of the originals but also to reflect the broader cultural shift away from that genre
Yeah. I listened to that too. I think he had to view it as an action parody to keep it from being a parody of a 90s parody of a detective movie and honor what he noticed about the original (that it had an actual story/plot and wasn’t just a joke factory). I am guessing they also want to market it as more different from the original than it is so people don’t dismiss it as a hack rehash.
This is everything I was hoping it would be, lol. The laughs did fall flat for like 10 minutes 2/3s the way through, but overall this was nearly a non-stop laugh machine. Gorilla Nut
This was great. The coffee gag got me every time. My favorite bit was the mission impossible fallout spoof.
"I was still distraught over the Janet Jackson Super Bowl...." "That was 20 years ago!" "Maybe for you...."
we are so lucky this thing exist i was guffawing through a good 70% of it and had tears in my eyes for probably at least 30 not much action at my 11:50am showing but those few were also laughing through a lot of it. i enjoyed the crowd groans at the browns joke in my suburban cleveland theater
Got an A- Cinemascore. Word of mouth should carry this (for comparison a lot of other recent attempts at theatrical comedy have gotten Bs or lower. Bodes well for audiences really liking it)
The guy with the crab claws and the other guy saying “I SAW HIM!” was what got me the most. Great movie. Hopefully it does well at the theaters.
Snowman bit was my favorite, pulling the book out titled Spells & Incantations lmao. And the final “fight” was really great
Snowman bit was great. wonder how this translates to younger audiences. A 60 second TiVo Buffy the vampire slayer bit won’t land but there’s so much for everyone I feel.
