Another bump but I've been really just listening to these guys a lot lately. Specifically We Shall All Be Healed and this. But the other night I was having a terrible time and listened to Transcendental Youth, just laying down and listening to the album. Feel like I have a way better appreciation for it than I did before. I find it to be a very fun listen, with John's lyrics particularly hitting me and sticking out. And his lyricism is probably my absolute favourite aspect of any and all of his music.
Randomly saw John at the DC zoo today. I just said I’m a big fan and he was super friendly. 10/10 encounter
Damn. Is it definitely an entire album for each studio session? It's like they're trying to compete with King Gizzard. Also, they announced a short duo tour (John and Matt). Me too. Met my girlfriend because I went to Chicago to see The Hold Steady several years back so it feels right.
A THS/TMG double bill is basically my dream concert so I immediately bought tickets. Never had the chance to see THS live before!
Really thinking about buying a ticket for their show in Toronto. I've never been to a show by myself, and if I get one I'd have to get a flight there and some accommodations for a day or two and then my way back but I really want to experience a concert that's A) a band I love and B) something by myself. Idk I'll wait like a couple days to decide but I might just pull the trigger and make it work I love this band a lot
Can't recommend this enough. The first show I went to by myself was also a Mountain Goats show, and it remains one of my favorite concert experiences ever. There's something really freeing about not stressing about if the person you're with is having a good time.
I've never actually been to a concert of a band that I like, or especially love. I'd have to fly to Toronto but tickets are so cheap and I can manage to save up extra cash in a couple months, plus it's right after my first year of college is finished. But I also have a friend who is a huge Mountain Goats fan so I might invite them too idk Thinking about this very seriously. I very well could make it happen
Have been to lots of Mountain Goats shows both alone or with people, and my experience either way has been lovely crowds and many other people there alone that are more than happy to chat between sets.
I bought tickets for the show! I invited a friend, waiting to hear back from them, if I don't then tomorrow I am booking a flight and a hotel room... I will be seeing these guys in April, god damn it
