I'll expand slightly. There's obviously nothing wrong with a horror comedy, but neither of the tones is really working all that well here. It's basically not scary at all, and seldomly all that funny. The pacing is an absolute slog; it's genuinely boring and frequently drags. The lore is non-existent or uninteresting, and the attempt at the woefully overdone generational trauma and the human element between father and son is painfully forced and ineffective. And the incredibly handsome Theo James a nebbish nerd? Yeah, no. On the plus side: some solid gore, it looks great, and Oz Perkins has shown that even if his movies don't do it for you, at least they are all quite different from one another.
pretty sure i hate this dude's movies. i will sadly have to continue watching all of them when they come out to make sure
