this was fun! Longlegs is better. my theatre popped off when Elijah showed up and "WE GOTTA MAKE LIKE EGGS AND SCRAMBLE" but otherwise people seemed kinda cool on it. we didn't get the Keeper teaser which is lame as hell
This was an absolute blast. My theater enjoyed the hell out of it. Easily prefer this to longlegs (stinky!).
Perkins claims in an AMA he did on Reddit today that the point of the cheerleaders was because he wanted to have a group of people standing on their shoulders to get a better look at the wreckage, for comedic effect - but when it came time to film the sequence, the extras on set weren’t allowed to do it (feels like a weird contractual oversight but whatever, I guess shit happens). So he just wound up shooting the scene with a bunch of cheerleaders simply because he had them around. No hidden meaning behind them
whatever the reasoning behind it was the cheerleaders yelling "THEY'RE BRINGING THE BODY OUT" was one of my biggest laughs in this movie
Really thought I was going to love this because the first 20 minutes or so were dumb and fun but by the end of the movie I couldn’t help but feel that it kinda just fucking sucked.
Also, I saw it with friends so went to a different theater than usual, one way closer to downtown Boston, and the experience was WILD. First, there was some dude in a sweatshirt and sweatpants in our seat and he had a massive amount of food spread out so we were just like, “okay, we’ll just sit in a different row so you don’t have to move” although he acted like he wasn’t going to move even if we had asked. Then, like 15 minutes into the movie, he gives all his food away to the people in front of him and leaves the theater. The family in front of him had a couple kids, one of which was scrolling Instagram the entire movie and at one point a video started playing at full volume, and the other kept leaving to buy slushees. The dad kept saying “uh oh” whenever the monkey lifted its hand. The whole family left about an hour into it. 15-20 minutes into the movie, a group of kids that couldn’t be older than 12 came running in (one fell up the stairs), and in the movie when there’s the line about him sucking a banana or something like that, they started laughing hysterically with their prepubescent voices. Then, maybe half an hour later, they all left and the kid who fell up the stairs fell down the stairs. If I had cared about the movie this all would’ve pissed me off but it was probably the funniest theater experience I’ve ever had. Just utter insanity.
