not gonna listen to the newest single, I've already beaten the first 3 into the ground. I can hold off for the album
In the era of streaming, you can essentially make your albums as long as you want. Generally (I assume), the more songs you release, the more potential for more streams
It's very long. I think it's a pretty good album but I have only listened to it once because to sit down and commit is ... a commitment and you can feel the length.
i'm still excited to hear the full thing. the singles have really clicked or grown on me (Chariot hit right away)
granted, I have not heard the album yet, and I will readily admit that 85 minutes sounds extremely long, but it's hard to feel anything other than excitement when all of the songs released so far have been so damn good
Seeing them live in a couple weeks here in Oslo, and snagged a VIP Experience upgrade for the show, which gets me in early, some goodies, and access to buy some VIP-only merch. Never bought this before for any show, so we'll see if it was worth it.
I'm trying to think of a the midnight song I actively dislike and I'm coming up short hell I don't even skip Youth I think Monsters is probably their weakest release and I've still spun that dozens of times. I like Horror Show too, that Patti Smith cover is aces edit: and oh yeah Monsters has "Brooklyn" on it which is one of my top songs
Kids always felt like their weakest release to me. in the grand scheme of the loose trilogy it makes up with Monsters and Heroes, it works decently as the first of three parts. but removed from that context, the nostalgic references feel too cheesy and on the nose (in the same way that Stranger Things usually does for a lot of people). it's also their shortest release save for Horror Show, but somehow gets billed as an album. of the 9 songs on the album, one is a non-musical interlude (Saturday Mornings), one is a pretty simplistic instrumental (Arcade Dreams), one is a reprise of another track (Kids, both versions not really standing out to me), and one is an intro with a pretty nice instrumental (Youth), but the whole dialogue about the history of the computer takes me out of it. i don't hate any of the songs, but Lost Boy and America 2 are the only songs on that record that really grabbed me the way their other records have. Monsters was not only nearly twice as long, but had a better fleshed out concept, more creative musicianship/catchier hooks/affective ballads (i've been a long time fan of both theirs and Tyler's versions of Brooklyn), and fewer moments that felt too on the nose re: nostalgia. maybe the way they handled those elements on Kids work better for others, and to each their own, but compared to the albums that came before and after it, Kids is the release of theirs i return to the least (even though i do like it as a whole, just not as much as the others).
I think “kids” is just a different idea, of a kind of album; to me it felt like it tried to personify, as much as possible, what being a kid felt like emotionally; the interludes really helped with that. That’s why I like it the most? Haha; as a full album Monsters is my fav. Heroes is the one I come back to the least. But to be real, they’re still all awesome pieces of work, so really looking forward to what this new one will be like.
I love Heroes. incredible songs. maybe my 2nd fave LP of theirs after ES, although Kids is close. Wave is one of my favorite The Midnight songs, but Lost Boy and America 2 rule too When I dream, we're all melting together Synchronized in a mass embrace Beads of water folding together Like a North Shore wave How strange We're parts of each other How strange I'll never even know your name
I guess there's nothing groundbreaking here, but it's still a good song that has me excited to hear the whole thing
oh i dig this one. Bonnie has written some huge hits, so having her co-writing and vocals on this makes it feel pretty big.
Got in early as I got the VIP thing; basically gave you a zip goodie bag with a few things. Merch selection kinda sucks though, haha. Boring t-shirt designs, and poster as well. Have to wait to get into the main stage area too, when doors officially open, haha
