If my first thought isn't "are these guys Nazis?" then it's not pvre trve black metal.

 

I wish there were more RABM bands that went for that more traditional BM sound...all of the best stuff on the right side of tracks is either made by crust punks who play black metal or in the Panopticon/Falls of Rauros vein.

2nd wave black metal was a struggle for me at first lol. did not at all like Mayhem or even Darkthone at first. Emperor and Immortal were definitely more approachable, which made it easier to work backwards

 

this book also made it easier, I listened to the music alongside the history of it

Just got home from the Bullet For My Valentine/Trivium co headline arena Birmingham gig, first Orbit Culture were a great warm up act and even more brutally heavy live than they are on record, the headliners Bullet For My Valentine were really good but Trivium were fucking incredible and definitely stole the night by far!!

 

Weird, 'cause I saw them open for Alcest before they (Deafheaven) got big, and someone in the audience was like, "They look like Nazis...cool!"

 

Same here, my main issue was that the lyrics didn't rhyme, and then came the issue of songs being too long for my attention span at that time period.

 

Happy you had a blast! It's my turn in a couple weeks. I haven't listened to Bullet For My Valentine past Fever but Trivium's Ascendancy was big for me and my brother so I'm looking forward to going on a nostalgia trip and sharing that memory with him!
