I still download MP3s illegally like a degenerate so I don't have a Spotify wrapped.

I was telling @Elder Lightning that I’m having a really hard time with Death Metal these days. Unless it’s got some hardcore in it (200 Stab Wounds, Frozen Soul, Gatecreeper) I can’t get into it.

    Hot take, I know…

Not at all! I did see gatecreeper this year and they were awesome. Sometimes I listen at work and it's hard to focus or I'm driving with my family

if your list doesn't have Frozen Soul and Enforced on it, I'm probably not gonna take it seriously

in all seriousness, enforced is probably a top 25 album for me for the year. frozen soul was good, but it was released so long ago in the year that i keep forgetting about it.

I need to listen to that Enforced album before the end of the year. I have not listened to that Frozen Soul album in a while but it had some kickass Bolt Thrower vibes going on.

Both were released early in the year and will therefore probably be forgotten by a lot of lists. I'm a little bit biased when it comes to FS, but I don't think I've liked an album as much as Crypt of Ice or Kill Grid since like Nightmare Logic. They both just hit my personal sensibilities perfectly.

same, although "sludge metal" was one of my top genres. but I chalk the lack of metal in mine up to the fact that the bulk of my metal listening is either vinyl or CD, while the bulk of my streaming listening is the playlist of punk/rock/indie I put on at work.

  15. inspectorkemp

    a literal succubitch

My top songs of the year barely have any metal at all in the entire 100-song playlist, but my top four genres were death metal, brutal death metal, black metal and deathcore.

This is probably because when I listen to metal I tend to blast straight through entire albums one after the other but rarely put individual songs on repeat so the non-metal I listen to gets overrepresented in the top songs and artists wrap-up.

I listen to quite a bit of DM but don’t really fuck with the ultra-tech stuff (with some exceptions)

like, I rather listen to something with a groove (Undeath) & / or just bleak and heavy as fuck (Mortiferum) than a wanky chaotic death metal band

    my wrapped:

    1. ambient
    2. death metal
    3. art pop
    4. black metal
    5. shoegaze

kinda funny - I also listen to a ton of vinyl so not necessarily representative

my no1 artist was Caroline Polacheck bc I discovered her album this year & became obsessed

my most listened metal album of the year was the Vildhjarta & the Ruins of Beverast I’d say but according to spotify my fourth most played artist this year was korn lol - I really really re-discovered my love for their first 4 albums

I also finally acquired a vinyl copy of october rust which I played non-stop this year & which got me obsessed with album yet again & then I became obsessed again with World Coming Down

being a music obsessive is so much fun

It has been a little over a year since Riley Gales’ passing and we are humbled to bring Power Trip fans limited edition picture lp versions of the classic Manifest Decimation & Nightmare Logic albums. We are extremely thankful to the Gale family for their support, and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these albums will go to The Riley Gale Memorial Foundation, which will benefit several causes that Riley held dear.

    Rest in Power Riley!
