Petty late on this but the new Alcest album is great and I'm excited to dig into this band's discography now. It was not what I was expecting

I might be too. I gave The Body's new album another listen a few days ago and it's pretty good. Not what I'm used to as far as metal goes, but that's okay because I'm sure it'll grow on me

That's pretty sexy. I would love it if they put out an LP with this cover blown up and reformatted. Black on black stuff is so beautiful if done properly.

Thank you for the implicit reminder that I need to pick up tickets for that tour. I've been meaning to do to that for about a week now.

so I missed Full of Hell again...

I feel it's one of those bands that I will never get to see just because shit keeps getting in the way

hopefully they'll hit NY again soon with the new album and all

I've got a weird relationship with that band. Their later stuff seems to be really really cool imo. Plus their guitarist has been the bassist for Gorguts since 2013. I'd have to listen to their old stuff again because it's been a long while.

They're playing NYC and Rochester in February with the Calavera Bros. and Immolation.

Colin is also a great engineer/producer who has worked with Panopticon a lot. Also, he did guitars for the last Pyramids record

Yeah he's really awesome and super impressive production credits. He also did some origin, altar of plagues, pyrrhon, kayo dot, and the new gorguts albums which sound really really impressive

Speaking of Panopticon, they put out a new song last week as apart of the Decibel Flexi series:

Which AOP album did he do?

I don't really know I just skimmed his production credits on wiki earlier and saw the name. He's really produced some way different sounding bands. Alot of extreme and chaotic bands too. Pretty crazy impressive. Anyone in here heard of the band Cleric?

oh, I actually meant Collin (although Barr is quasi-legendary too) precisely because of the production credits

Blue Lambency Downward is one of my favorite records ever, and the production is just perfect

also, his Infidel?/Castro! record is out of this world

    get to it

Kayo Dot is an amazing band. I like Gamma Knife the best I think

about fucking time we talk about Kayo Dot

no other band reinvents itself on each album quite like them

hard to choose a favorite but its probably like so:

    1. Dowsing Anemone: perfectly sums up everything I love about this man's art - complex, passionate, dark, and always engaging

    2. Toby Driver s/t: basically another KD album, heavier on the classical music side of things - Horrorca is a beast of a track, obvi - if you ever get the chance to read the liner notes, do so, very interesting conceptual context added to the pieces

    3. Blue Lambency Downward: one of the few relevant guitar albums of recent years... seriously, listen to this intently, it is mesmerizing, dream jazz or something

    4. Choirs of the Eye: the best "metal" album ever? I think so, fight me (also, how old was he here?)

    5. Coyote: basically Miles Davis meets the Cure - fucking amazing - Toby switches to bass here - also a killer guitar solo by Mia

now, don't get me wrong, all of them are amazing, so Gamma is still a killer album, but jesus fucking christ those first four are on a league of their own

maudlin of the Well is also p sick - the first track on the reunion album is one of my favorites ever

    not to mention Tartar Lamb

I still need to catch them live, but I'm sad I didn't catch them on my favorite era
