I had a similar scenario. Top genres were melodic metalcore and death metal but top five songs had zero of either. I think it depends on number-of-spins-per-genre versus individual tracks. IE, I listened to my top five songs the most, but because I spun so many full albums of melodic metalcore and death metal just once or twice it racked up the "score" for those genres. It makes sense to me.

I came across this via the Stereogum end of year list the other day and I've listened to it every day since. An incredibly stark, angry and discomforting record.

 

Forgot they had a new EP coming out. Gonna check it out tomorrow!

Not really "metal" per se but a good noise rock album mixed with some Motorhead riffs and ear piercing vocals. I guess it's not that far off from what Kvelertak is doing with the black n' roll thing.
