Right on. That's what I figured. Didn't know if maybe they changed their sound and went heavier. I'll check it out regardless.

what a great year for the genre. really bummed to not see it represented on most eoty lists, given bands like baroness, mastodon and deafheaven pushing that into more regularity the last few years

whats a good publication to follow for experimental/extreme metal news and reviews? p4k has nearly abandoned the genre, noisey sucks, and none of the straight up metal sites ive found are really any good. im into sludge/black/post/doom for the most part

That Clrvynt site seems to be pretty good for that sort of thing.

Stosuy writes for the Creative Independent, I think. Haven't tried reading it.

Kim Kelly at Noisey does the metal stuff over there...so maybe just look at her twitter hah

ThePRP covers all metal for better or worse. You have to filter out nu-metal news but they cover stuff that seems to be sludgier

Yeah I mean I feel like for more "quality" recs within a genre, it's easier to follow specific writers and who they RT or endorse.

I used to frequent Blabbermouth.net obsessively in middle school but I just went and there's a shocking amount of hair metal news

surprisingly, av club is probably the biggest major pub that covers it with any sort of decent writing

I usually just try to check everything out on the yearly Rate Your Music charts by genre. Hope I'm not missing a bunch of shit

No Clean Singing is probably the best for what you're looking for. They have near daily updates about new songs that have been released and cover pretty much every form of extreme metal to a good degree.

Cvlt Nation, Invisible Oranges, Last Rites, Metal Injection, and Decibel are also all pretty solid in my book, but they vary in their quality and the amount they post.

There's also Lambgoat for news (avoid their comments and forums like the plague) and Metalsucks if you want content frequently. Metalsucks has become a bunch of tryhards over the last few years with way too much editorializing for my tastes, despite the fact I agree with their opinions most of the time. If they could express their opinions a bit more coherently without coming off like blowhards, I might like the site a bit more.
