I think I heard that astronoid when it came out and didn't like the style of the singing vocals. I'll have to listen again

Alcest
Kvelertak
Red Fang

But holy shit, I love that Brain Tentacles record.

also to add to my list, the inter arma album this year is fucking tight. never listened to them but saw them open for deafheaven/carcass the other night and they were about as good as deafheaven was for real. they were amazing.

 

It's somewhat sludgy where they replaced the guitars with horns.

Listened to Dark Lunacy during a long trip last week. Good decision. Never went back to listen to their old stuff or kept up with their recent material. I'm only familiar with 3 of their albums between 2000-2006, but it's good stuff.

 

Trying to catch up on metal this year and just metal in general. Listening to Inter Arma right now and it's pretty great.

Other than Deftones and Gojira, this is a solid list. Stoked to check out Ustalost and Mizmor at some point. Those descriptions make those records sound on point.
