I guess I just feel like having them at #2 is pandering, but the listing makes sense given this cover. Album just seems noticeably weaker than their previous two, the lack of the second guitar is glaring. They also feel like a one-trick pony to me. Hell, I'd put Trap Them and Hierophant's new albums over Nails and neither of them are on the list.

But yeah, it's just one list. Honestly this is probably going to be one of the better ones as far as major publications go.

I'm pretty sure Todd recorded both guitar parts on the new album. The touring guitarist that played with them live when I saw them back in June played during the songs of the new album. Again, I feel like this is Nails's best work, but we'll have to agree to disagree there.

Also, Trap Them is on their list at 11.

Anaal Nathrakh, Infant Annihilator, and Shadow Of Intent are going to be fighting the fuck out of each other for my number one favorite release spot this year. Sabaton will be close behind them, as will releases like Dawn Of Disease, Despised Icon, Black Crown Initiate (need to give that another listen actually), Nails, Whispered, and Fleshgod Apocalypse.

20buckspin (label that Khemmis and Oransi Pazuzu are on) is having a pretty good sale on their site until the 28th:

They didn't play CAFO though, which was disappointing. They did play "Brain Dance" though, which was soooo good; that acoustic/electric guitar hybrid he uses is so nice

  16. Saw these guys last night and they blew me away. They're an Australian progressive / extreme metal band (with a violinist!) and they really stand out. Seeing them receive attention overseas and with critics is awesome, my dad's seen them four times, I've seen them twice. Really nice, humble band! I hope some of you love them too :)

Saw the Ulcerate, Zhrine, and Phobocosm tour last night. Dear lord, that was one of the best nights of metal I've witnessed live in a long time.

Do you guys have any site or resource you look to to track tours? I could really use something like that because I'm often blissfully unaware of what tours are going on and near me most of the time.

Bandsintown app; my favorite. Scans my Spotify and Facebook and tracks who I follow/like, and so then whenever any artist/band announces a tour, I'm immediately notified via app alert and email. Many times I find out about tours before they're even officially announced; not sure how that works

Ulcerate will probably be back within 2-3 years after they put out another album. They're pretty consistent about coming through NA once per album cycle. It shouldn't be at that hard for you to see Phobocosm if you want. I think they're from Vancouver and play locally semi-frequently. I have no idea when Zhrine will be back to North America sadly.

Like Ferrari, I primarily use the Bandsintown app. I also am pretty aggressive about searching Facebook for shows for DIY bands using a facebook group. If you live in a larger city, there's likely to be somewhere that compiles show listings. For example, I use notdiychi.org for DIY shows in Chicago. For metal, I use thecmf.com. My only complaint about each of these is there's a lot of irrelevant things to me listed on each one, but it's good resource to inform me about shows I wouldn't have otherwise known about.

I might miss out on some of the really lesser known bands that come through, but I just follow local venues, bookers and promoters and I feel like I catch most everything.
