Killswitch Engage got another opening slot with them on their Aussie/Kiwi tour next year - huge for them

this is a really hard one because both are amazing and have done so much. Also both Halford and Dickonson can absolutely still kill it live.

This might require further research and a deep dive into the discography of both...

I honestly don’t care for Iron Maiden, just not my thing. Totally respect them for all they’ve done for the genre tho

Both Iron Maiden and Judas Priest rule. It requires way too much metal energy to compare the two up against the other in their primes.

That said, Priest's latest output has been better the Iron Maiden's IMO. Firepower was surprisingly good.

Oh, I’ve done it and Judas Priest has the far more consistent discography. Not perfect but far superior. I just feel as though Iron Maiden went down a path where they were writing the same album over and over. This doesn’t mean they aren’t good but if I had to choose the better option, Judas Priest by a mile.

Meh list. Gatecreeper being so high is insane. No The Great Old Ones, Witch Vomit, Traveler, Mgla, Yellow Eyes, Deathspell Omega...

Kinda just feels like they're trying to shove Lingua Ignota in our faces the same way Pitchfork shoved Deafheaven.

Yeah, Deathspell Omega and Yellow Eyes put out top tier outputs.

I do love Lingua Ignota though, long before Profound Lore signed her, so I think her hype is justified.

Other than Gatecreeper being so high (which it feels hard to say since I dig them a lot) and Lingua Ignota being at #2 (I love, love her messaging and imagery, but I wasn't able to get into Caligula at all) this ain't a bad list. Still a lot of things on here I need to check out - Possessed, Crypt Sermon, Blut aus Nord, Sacred Reich, False, Mizmor...

I feel like my top list for this year is going to mostly be EPs at the rate I'm going.

I love Gatecreeper, but their new record really clicked for me after hearing most of it played live.
