Man the new Oathbreaker album is ridiculous. I can easily see this being in my top 10 aoty.

As far as the Opeth talk that's been going on, I love them up till Ghost Revieries but since they've ditched their heaviness I just find them a bit boring. My favourite part of that band was the contrast between their mellow and heavy sides. Also I rate Blackwater Park as a masterpiece.

Really looking forward to the new Darkest Hour. Being independently recorded and released (I'm assuming, idk who their distributor is) and produced by Kurt Ballou, I'm expecting this to be free of the Sumerian-core shit that the last one had. I mean, I like that album for the most part but it's easily the weakest thing they've ever released.

Same, I bought it and blasted it all the time but it was kind of uninspired. Deliver Us had some nice progressive elements, and Eternal Return abandoned all of that for straight up aggression. I'd be ok with a return to that style.

New Meshuggah record wastes no time in getting down.

Spent some time with the new Opeth and I like it a lot. Fuck it, I'll go ahead and commit heresy and say that I'm starting to like the new direction more than the old one. Maybe it's just that I like the esoteric, occult themes and atmospheres of this direction. I mean, they've always been there, but they somehow feel more tangible to me when coupled with this sort of music.

I'd still say Ghost Reveries is my favorite Opeth record overall tho.

What classifies as prog metal anyway, since a lot of metal subgenres usually have at least some element of progressive song structure.

BTBAM obviously but who else fits that description?
