The production on Grey & Gold isn't unlistenable, and I'd hesitate to even say that it's bad at all, but it definitely gets too loud and cluttered. I'm pretty sure Baroness is the closest Fridmann has come to producing a metal band and it shows. I love how some of the albums he's produced sound (see: Thursday) but I don't think he fits Baroness at all. The sonic quality of the album is far from "unlistenable" as some people have put it, though.

 

I don’t think it’s unlistenable but it’s pretty bad. I don’t need any reviewer to tell me that and I was noticing things from the first listen where I saying: “are the speakers going in my car?”

But in the end, if you like it, that’s all that matters.

 

You're problem might be that you're judging an album's production based off your car speakers. Then again, I've listened to the album through studio headphones as well my car speakers and have not once thought my headphones/speakers were going out so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 

Listened to it many ways and it’s still the same. I’m clearly not alone here but my point still stands: if you like it, that’s all that matters.

Right, I do like it, but that doesn't mean I can't offer up my own opinion in response to yours. Just trying to have some simple discourse

The drummer is a beast. It’s a shame the production makes it sound like he is beating the crap out of tin cans.

 

it's part of their schtick. they're super, super diy so it didn't surprise me that it sounds like it was recorded in a meth lab:

So my roommate Tristan's band, which has been inactive for a bit, finally had the production finished on their EP. So here I am sharing it with all of you since he's not a member on here. If BTBAM and Dream Theater had a baby, this would be it.

While I am honestly not a fan of their vocalist (I personally told Tristan I think he sounds like the guy from the Zeo Power Rangers theme song), he is also their producer/keyboardist and was essentially given free reign to do whatever he wanted on the mic. While I don't think they plan to release again, he felt really happy to finally get this finished and up on streaming sites.

Should also be on Spotify for those that are bored and are looking for something to listen to today.

 

Also wanna say I got around to hearing the full new He Is Legend album earlier and I think it’s possibly their best ever.

 

Spiritbox is still my fave band in the genre at the moment
