i didn't hear any integrity influence on it during my first listen through...i'll have to give the demo another go this afternoon. the riffing on it was pretty awesome though.

That's an odd production choice for Dee Snider...I'll happily give the collaboration a listen though,

Seems like they had a bunch of outside people come in to help; it's just Jasta helping lead the whole project. All the clips have sounded amazing, so can't wait to hear the full thing

Anyone remember this movie? The soundtrack was actually pretty impressive at the time for being a low budget film.

Jasta has been hyping that Dee album forever on his podcast. I never gave a shit about Twisted Sister or Dee, but I think this record will be an interesting listen.

^Again, I've never listened to the Jasta podcast so I had no idea about the long term connection between the two dudes. I guess maybe I should give it a whirl? I'm skeptical because Jasta's persona on Headbanger's Ball always annoyed me as it detracted from the broadcast, but maybe he's changed the way he hosts a bit.

"I Wanna Rock" was apparently my favorite song when I was 2. I would run around being like "What do you want to do with your life? I WANNA ROCK!!!" and making (what I thought were) guitar sounds and playing air guitar. I'm glad home video cameras weren't very prevalent in those days:

Ohhh man, you should check out his podcast; he's quite the chill dude nowadays. He can be quite reflective and smart about the things he talks about in his podcasts, and always has really cool conversations with the guests he interviews.

neat. i'll try to give it a listen sometime if i find myself wanting something different than listening to music all the time.

on a side note not directly related to try reply, i've been jamming a lot of dismember so far this afternoon:

you can never go wrong with swedish death metal soaked in HM-2 distortion. holy shit.

The HM-2 was a damn game changer. Gatecreeper, Nails, Black Breath, Entrails, etc. all utilize the sound.

I like Jasta enough but you have to be willing to fast forward through a bunch of ads at the first of the show... Also I personally only listen to episodes with guests that interest me. I've tried other episodes but it's hit or miss.

For real, man. I feel like it's long ago transcended trend or cliche and become it's own little sub-sub genre haha. I'm a total sucker for that sound, to the point that I own a 1983 Boss HM-2, as well as three different clones. (the Dunwich Amps Tyrant Nails signature model, the Abominable Electronics Throne Torcher, and the Lone Wolf FX Left Hand Wrath Deluxe) /humblebrag

That pedal was also a big part of the tone At the Gates had on Slaughter of the Soul, albeit it was stacked with a Metal Zone, a combination that on paper has no reason to sound as good as it does on that record haha.

I honestly wish BTBAM would just go full on prog rock, not really feeling the new single very much.

man I still haven't gone back to their last album in so long because I was so put off by how proggy it was. I yearn for the Alaska/Colors days, but that band is dead.

As much as I love the early days, I do think that band is way too talented to be confined to that particular sound. Like pull an Opeth and make a double album with one album being heavy and the second album is not.

Saying they are dead is a bit much. They are comfortable doing what they do and they do it well.

I think he meant that the "Alaska/Colors version" of BTBAM is dead

Oh, ok. I was ready to throw down! (Not really, haha)
But I agree that the old death metal/progressive metal version of them is gone, although they will play those live. They are getting older and with age comes a change in tastes.

It's cool that they still recognize those songs in their live set, even if it's not where they're at as a band right now. I'm all for bands evolving and changing, but I hate when bands pretend like their old stuff doesn't exist and just completely stop playing stuff from their early records. It's nice when bands throw in one or two old ones for the long time fans even if their sound is completely different now.

Welcome to what I've been feeling about BTBAM for the past 10 years.

Thanks for sharing this as I haven't seen it yet...I've been digging a lot more traditional/OG power metal/speed metal type bands recently so this gives me a lot of new acts to check out when I get a chance. Of the stuff mentioned in the article, Sumerlands, Eternal Champion, and High Spirits have all gotten spins from me. Satan's Hallow (which I know was hyped around here) also fits that mold pretty well. Now to find the time to listen to all those acts...

I’m surprised you ever liked BTBAM. It’s FAR removed from anything you ever post and recommend.
