Since it's Saturday and I'm bored, I have an idea. Everyone should post a band that they haven't listened to because they never got around to it or they just passed them by or whatever reason. Maybe a band that you've been meaning to check out but haven't yet because you're overwhelmed by their discography or something. And then people should post a song/video/album from said artist as a place to start for that band. I am sure that with our metal powers combined here, we should be able to cover most of the bands.

I'll start with a band I see mentioned on here fairly frequently: Watain. Never got around to it. Where to begin?

I like this idea. Watain is a great starting point too, because I'm new to them as well. Speaking of which Destroyer 666 (who they're on tour with) is another one.

Dillinger Escape Plan is the one that came to mind for me. I've tried a few times in the past, but never gave them a proper chance since it didn't click for me right away. I like lots of similar bands though, so maybe if someone recommends the right song/album.

the mammoth grinder and genocide pact albums seem pretty decent for getting my feet wet in death metal, I enjoyed mammoth grinder and the genocide pact record is cool so far. have to get used to the death metal vocal style still though

Option paralysis is peak DEP and got me into them, but what really got me into them was seeing them live which sadly isn't possible now. But their records are good, check out the that one and their last one

I'm srue seeing them live would have sealed the deal for me ages ago. I was in line to see them, Misery Signals, Zao and Every Time I Die (DEP headliner) back in like 2004, but it sold out like 10 people in front of me. Even though I never got into their music, I was always aware of their live show and always wanted to see them. I somehow managed to miss them every other time they'd come to town thought. :tear:

For Destroyer, I'd go with Cold Steel...for an Iron Age first, followed by Unchain the Wolves. Their last album (Wildfire) was decent but everything before is better. Here are a few good songs:

We could do what we do in CMCS but only metal releases.

I'd be game for this if y'all are actually serious about it. I have plenty of metal albums that do could share with the wider populace here that most of you will probably hate but it's always worth the old college try. :)

Other weekend updates - Memoriam posted a new song from their upcoming album...I'm kind of underwhelmed by it to be honest. It's a perfectly competent mid-tempo OSDM song. But when you add that ex-Bolt Thrower descriptor to it, I expect a bit more. Form your own opinion though:

I can set it up if we have enough votes from everyone. It doesn’t even have to be as detailed as CMCS. We can exchange records and then come back and say whether we like it or not and give a paragraph or so. It can even be a rating out of ten. People just have to keep an open mind and be willing to listen to new things.

I'm not sure exactly what's happening or what CMCS is, but I'm likely down.

edit: figured out what CMCS is, and I'm in.

Ok, so I was asked by one of the founding members of CMCS to ask you all to join the original group instead of making a new group. I think it would be great to get a heavier mix of music in amongst the group of members and most people are very open to just about anything. I totally respect if you don't want to join but I also respect not wanting to deny some of the larger group some of the great recommendations many of you have been throwing around here. Ill put the link for the group below:
