I got a bunch of tickets for $5 each during a Black Friday promo my local venue did.

I grabbed one for Trivium/Arch Enemy/While She Sleeps/Fit For An Autopsy, which is tonight, but I'm debating if I even wanna drive out for it. Parking would be free, but I don't really care for Trivium, and I don't know any of Arch Enemy's stuff.

Was thinking I might make it an early night and just check out WSS and FFAA.

Thoughts? Should I stay for the whole show? Do I go at all? I put the ticket up on CL, but I doubt I'll get any bites.

As the arbiter of shitty metal opinions on this site, the only band on that lineup that does anything for me at this point in their careers is FFAA. Trivium would be cool to see if they didn't play any material off of their newer albums and just focused on Ember To Inferno and Ascendancy. Personally, I'd stay home depending on how long the drive is. If it's longer than 30+ minutes, then well, my couch would be a-callin'.

Yeah Trivium's first two albums and older Arch Enemy are my high school jams, but I'm assuming they don't ever play much of that stuff anymore

These are my thoughts 100%. I guess I'll see how I feel in another hour. I was thinking I could catch the two openers and be out of there by 8. FFAA would be the draw for me but I'd prob stay for WSS just to justify the drive.

You can't really go wrong with an album that has a track about eating displacer beasts.

Speaking of D&D, once upon a time I was chilling with friends playing D&D and I threw on some power metal on a whim as battle background music and one of my friends looked at me and said "...I thought you were playing anime for a second," and I don't know why but ever since she pointed out that power metal often sounds like an anime intro I haven't been able to fucking unhear it ever.

This is way outside my usual taste, but here's some beautiful post/prog metal from Hungary. Really enjoyed this one:

The first boss fight of the campaign I'm currently playing was a displacer beast taking the avatar of a little elf boy named Jimmy. In order to beat the hombre, we had to shoot the kid...somehow I got away without taking a hit during that one but that's what happens when you're a lore bard playing behind the frontlines.

So I decided to go to the show last night.

Fit For An Autopsy were really good. I was only familiar with a couple of their songs, but I'll probably listen to more of their stuff now. The crowd was kinda lukewarm, but it was a Trivium headliner, so what can you expect?

I watched half of While She Sleeps' set, and while their energy was top notch, I couldn't really get into much of their stuff, so I decided to go the the theater next door to the venue and watch 3 Billboards with my MoviePass instead. I think it was the right choice.

By the time the movie let out, Trivium was on stage and I was able to catch a few songs from the outdoor area. Nothing notable, so I left.

Three Billboards was a great movie. Great decisions were made all around by you last night. I feel like a proud papa.

The Code Orange album is great, but it could be moved to slot 20 and I would think it makes more sense.

As long as Power Trip is in the top 5, I'm happy.

And I think Forever is a mediocre album that tries to mix Disembodied breakdowns with industrial influence in a half-assed way. The best track on the album is Bleeding in the Blur, and it's a grunge song.

This just boils down to an old adage: Another man's trash is another man's treasure.

Yeah I’d probably have Forever fairly high on my aoty list too but yeah it’s all personal preference so each to their own. If I bothered to actually put it in order, I’m guessing it’d prob end up around 4 or 5 in mine.

I’m glad to see higher power on that list though, that’s prob my most played record this year (that’s actually come out this year). Gutted I missed them support ETID the other day (damn early doors).

Personal preference but with Code Orange, Forever has the same problem as the rest of their albums. Front loaded with some heavy stuff, and then this one just kinda meanders with weird lulls and disjointed industrial elements. Doesn't feel coherent.

Whatever, here's some more epic heavy metal that was endorsed by Eternal Champion:
