I like what Zeal and Ardor is going for and there's some moments on the record I enjoy but as a whole I just can't get into it that much. Not even sure why since I tend to enjoy post-black metal that blends genres. (i.e. Panopticon). O well.

Burzum is a black metal band founded by Varg Vikernes in the late 80s/early 90s. Highly influential in the genre. But Vikernes is also super racist, burned down churches, and murdered a guy.

That might be the issue, going in expecting panopticon will leave you disappointed. Z and A makes me think of blues and soul with metal influences and not the other way around. Slow dark drone with rapid bursts of speed and intensity, I love it.

I said it before but I think whatever they put out next will really turn heads.

Listened to the new Black Dahlia Murder album today and it’s so fucking good (no shock there).

As far as the Zeal and Ardor talk, I think it’s a cool concept that’s been executed well in some places on the debut. I think the next album could be incredible though if they find the right producer.

lol I was kidding. Burzum/Varg is like the go-to for when anyone talks about the black metal scene in the early 90's

but yeah dude is a terrible person

It was just funny to me cuz I work at a Christian establishment and all my coworkers are pretty straight laced but he’s an 18 yo skater kid and we’ve been talking about music a lot. He says he liked the black metal bands he checked out haha.

I liked the production on it. I think what is needed is some organization and cohesive direction. This is a rare example of something I'd want godcity to stay far far away from.

New project from Josh Middleton. I would rather a new Sylosis record but this will suffice. Dormant Heart is one of my top metal albums.

speaking of djent-y stuff, were any of you ever into siKth? They came up on my iTunes shuffle and it reminded me that they had an album come out this year that was pretty good

Sikth are so good, their first 2 albums are faultless (apart from the Nick Cave cover) imo. I saw them so many times back in the day as they pretty much supported everyone here in the UK around the 2001-2004 period. If you've never seen them fix that, they're ridiculously good live.

Also while I think the new stuff is pretty good I do think they miss having Justin in the band. Right I'm gonna have to put on The Trees Are Dead now.

I found out about this awhile ago but forgot to post about this. My friend had a gig at Deathwish around the time Sunbather was coming out. Deathwish made flags with the cover but Deafhaven didn't like them. They are still sitting in a warehouse somewhere. My friend told me he took one but i haven't seen it.
