Cannibal Corpse always brings it live, in my eyes at least. You'll definitely have a good time seeing them!

I really want to go to the CC/Power Trip/Gatecreeper show. I'm least excited to see Cannibal honestly, not to say they won't be great.

I just gave this a listen based on its mentions here and in the r/metal quarterly Top 2017 lists, and this is phenomenal. Another nice surprise for me - turns out they're from Chicago. I'll definitely have to catch them live some time!

I've been going through that list as well for things I've missed. I've listened to the top 15 or so (minus Pallbearer) and some scattered others but there's a lot on there that I need to check out. Surprised to see Tomb Mold still so high over everything else.

Dan would do so well in a black metal band

    New Chelsea Wolfe is unreal

New wolves in the throne room is okay at best

New blut aus nord single reminds me why they're the best at this extreme metal game

AAFCC seem to have a new album close to done

The production on WITTR’s Thrice Woven could of been better imo

Yeah that new WITTR is pretty and all but I feel like there are too many lulls

it just seems like for their big return to the black metal style its so much of "been there, heard that on other wittr albums" throughout

Emperor of Sand didn't need to grow on me haha, but I do agree that the EP is great. That big fat riff on "Toe to Toes" is so fire. Reminds me of something from Baroness's Red/Blue era.

It's more like I loved when it came out but haven't listened at all since and this made me go back and affirm it deserves more of my time

Emperor of Sand is most definitely in my top 3 of the year. The new ep is great, and very focused. Blue Walsh being my favorite.

agreed. i like that tomb mold record a lot, but i definitely wouldn't put it that high on my list. also, the new two song tape/ep they put out has even better material than what was on primordial malignity. could probably credit that to the fact they did those recording as a four-piece rather than a duo.

i don't think the production is bad on it at all. it sounds appropriately spooky, atmospheric, and crisp while not sounding overproduced. my issue with the album is with the songwriting. there are a lot of starts and stops to focus on atmospherics that really kill the momentum of the album ala the mid song break in born from the serpent's eye. the song starts out as a fucking barnburner, then breaks for female choir vocals/synth lines, and then the final payoff isn't even half of what the first half of the song is.

i'll echo the same opinion on the new mastodon EP that has been true for all releases since crack the skye - it's a solid release, but it just bores the snot out of me compared to their earlier material.

i share the same opinion as @theagentcoma when it comes to the new WITTR - it's a pretty release, but there are just too many spots throughout the album where momentum is building or chaos is set in and there's a shift that just kills it.

the new spectral voice is everything i needed it to be and more. getting sucked into a wormhole to another dimension has never been more pleasurable.

I'm really digging the new Elder record and thinking about going to their show in a couple weeks. This is the first I've heard from them though, any recs on where to start with their older stuff.

I guess this should go here... May be more suitable in the hardcore or post hardcore/metalcore thread, but whatever...
