That Panopticon double album is going to be INSANE...hopefully if Autumn Eternal is going to be any indication.

Panopticon is incapable of releasing a bad album, it's science.

Tbh I feel like some bands almost shouldn't deviate from their formula. It's what's made bands like Motorhead, AC/DC, Slayer, and Cannibal Corpse so enduring.

I'm not saying experimentation is bad, at all, but there's some bands where it's almost comforting to know exactly what you're getting every time. Of course, this leads to mixed results and sometimes a dull album or two but all in all I'd say those bands I mentioned (including lesser tier ones like Accept or Saxon etc) all have an extremely solid body of work behind them. I'll turn to someone like Baroness or Ulver or whatever for experimentation and boundry-pushing.

And, if you really wanna explore it even further, I feel like almost every band that people criticize as being formulaic or redundant have been more adventurous than they get credit for. I mean, AC/DC had records like Blow Up Your Video or Fly on the Wall where they incorporated different elements and influences without really deviating from their core sound. Just to use one example. Moorhead recorded acoustic songs and a handful of ballads, and could pretty comfortably flow from rock'n'roll to speed metal, and then throw in a song like "Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me" or "1916".

I know I'm going on a tangent here lol but this topic is one I enjoy discussing.

New Winds of Plague. It's not a bad song, but this stuff hasn't really been in my wheelhouse since 2009-2010ish. I'll definitely give the album a listen though.

I mean, yes and no. They don't make the best music in the whole deathgrind genre but they're also one of the first bands to really commit to it and bring it to the mainstream. Gotta give credit where it's due.

I was so glad this thread introduced me to them. It was in the midst of our discussion of how I think black metal has no "real talent".

I need to insult more genres, seems like the best way to find stellar bands.

Goatwhore and Toxic Holocaust were great on Saturday.

The Convalescence on the other hand were pretty laughable.

Anarchist black metal from the UK with occasional violin flourishes. Muy bueno.

Even though heavy metal isn't really my thing, there have been some good releases this year, including these guys that I just got around to listening to

Oh man this is some good old-school NWOBHM bullet belt metal haha. I love bands like Enforcer and Black Trip so this is right up my alley.

So after me saying I'm not a massive fan of Cannibal Corpse the other day, it now looks like I'm going to be seeing them live as The Black Dahlia Murder are supporting them in London. Hopefully seeing them live can win me over on them. In Arkadia are the other support band so I'll have to check them out too before the gig.
