Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the riff heard in this video not on the new Contortionist album? I can't recall hearing it; weird to be featured in the studio update video, but then not make it on the album (especially when it's such an amazing riff)

Apparently Mychildren Mybride is still a thing:

I enjoyed the record but think Astronoid is superior - I like the idea of these sort of hopeful, modern sounding metal bands, equally influenced by shoegaze, Black Metal, post rock and alt rock

I guess Lantlôs's Melting Sun continues to be my fav record aiming for that

I really enjoyed that Vattnet record while doing yard work this weekend. Except for the last track, which I kinda feel bad saying I didn't like given the subject matter.

    O_o

and you call yourself a metalhead?

joking aside, cannibal corpse is one of the most consistent bands in the world in terms of their sounds. while their might be some variations between albums (i.e., they've "matured" with their lyrical themes on their last few albums), you can listen to any of their albums to get an idea of what the rest of their discography sounds like. i'll just give you my favorite CC track:

I've often heard that they're considered the AC/DC of metal and were nothing special, short of getting a lot of attention for shock factor and the Ace Ventura movie lol. I'm gonna give them a go today and report back

Cannibal Corpse definitely isn't reinventing the wheel with their sound, but I wouldn't consider them "nothing special". They're good songwriters and talented musicians. There's a reason they've been around for almost 30 years.

Never really got into Venom, but I'm hoping to hit up this show on Saturday. The support is pretty rad. [IMG]

Yo anyone who says Cannibal Corpse (or AC/DC for that matter) are "nothing special" is well and truly fucked in the head

I always side eye people who trash CC as talentless or a bad band. Like not being into them is fine, being subjective never hurts anybody, but CC is a damn good band and there’s a reason why they still remain death metal royalty to this day.

That was definitely a poor choice of words on my part. I suppose I've overlooked them all these years because of their mainstream success and/or being one of the best selling metal bands (at least in the more extreme genres). I figured for a genre of music that isn't really mainstream in the first place, I wouldn't be missing too much.

And now that I've listened to Tomb of the Mutilated for the first time today...it seems pretty solid. But that's really it...like, I'm not going to formulate an opinion based on listening to just one album (I at least want to listen to the first 4 albums). The songs seemed pretty formulaic and the vocals are super monotonous. There's talent there, obviously. But it's just not super interesting. And the song titles and lyrics...are they a joke? BUT I will say that the bass is amazing!

Before I piss anyone else off, I'm going to listen to the other 3 Barnes albums from CC and see where I stand then.

Also I stand by what I said about AC/DC.

I've never been able to get into Cannibal Corpse, I respect what they've done for the genre of the years and appreciate that they are a good band but personally I could never get on with Fisher's vocals.

I don't think the Cannibal/AC/DC comparison is too far off.

Both are talented bands with longevity but the consistency is almost to the point of redundancy.

    UFOMAMMUT stream new album

The new UFOMMAMUT album is streaming. Can't figure out how to embed it here, but it's a pretty solid slab of psychedelic doom.

After all this, I listened to The Bleeding last night and enjoyed it much more than Tombs. The difference in vocal style enough was a massive improvement.
