Went to a free show on Saturday with a few tribute bands... Iron Maiden (Maiden Time), Metallica (Motorbreath) and Pantera (Primal Concrete Cowboys) - All 3 acts were much better than I expected.

Maiden Time had a dude running around onstage with an Eddie mask on. Then "Bruce" came out waving the Union Jack in his full get up.

Motorbreath didn't dress up like Metallica or anything, in fact they had 5 members. The singer didn't play an instrument. BUT they only played stuff from the first 4 records and they closed with "Dyer's Eve" which they slayed.

Primate Concrete Cowboys did a great job too. Dime looked and sounded A LOT like the real thing. Brought back some great memories of seeing Pantera live.

I really wish I'd been able to catch Pantera back in the day. I only got into them towards the end of their career. The only time I came close to seeing them was when they were due to play Tattoo The Planet but they pulled out due to 9/11 happening and postponing the gig (they couldn't make the rescheduled date). I did manage to catch Damageplan once so I did get to see Dime the one time.

Saw Inquistion/UADA/Volahn last night here in Chicago. UADA was absolutely killer. Third time I've seen them this year, and it was undoubtedly the best set yet from them. IMO, they're the best contemporary American black metal band going at the moment. Inquisition was neat, but not 100% my thing. The vocals translated better live than on record. Volahn was a nice surprise. They were like a mystical wall of noise. Definitely going to check them out more.

See, I would say this title belongs to Inquisition. Haha. I guess, if you count them as American since they've spent the bulk of their career in America, but originated in Colombia. I still need to listen to UADA and Volahn.

Eh I'd say it's a little early to give Uada such praise with just one album. They always sounded like Mgla worship to my ears, but that's just me

Very into this River Black album. Pretty much picks up right where Burnt By the Sun left off, which is great.

Maybe I should change contemporary to new? I wouldn't include Inquisition as contemporary even under my previous definition in that regard because they've been a band for over 20 years now. They're legends, but even with that being said - they haven't clicked for me yet primarily because of Dagon's vocals. It's a subjective perception obviously, but I still can't get past it.

Regardless, UADA's first album was amazing and is probably in my top 3 for 2016 if I went back and revised my list today. They destroy live, and the new song they played live showed that future releases would probably be near the same quality to me pending they don't eff up the production.

Remind me never to engage with Lambgoat Facebook commenters on topics like this. For the most part, they're a bunch of mongoloids who still are finding ways to slut shame and victim blame even after this account is out.
