Anyone into Khost? Checked him/them out the other day and really dug what he's/they're doing.

 

Again, maybe it's just my taste progression, but everything Mastodon has done post-Crack the Skye has thoroughly underwhelmed me at best and been pretty terrible at worst. This new track is right in the middle of that spectrum.

 

They actually played some shows with The Number 12 Looks Like You earlier this year if I remember correctly. So they're still around.

Why even bother trying? The fans have moved on, his reputation is permantly ruined, and the best the band will do is minor tour support. AILD is gone, let it stay dead.

 

Also good fucking luck finding bands who want to tour with you, lol.

 

I could see them opening for some butt metal band like All That Remains or FFDP because they also happen to bands with bad people in them and their fans wouldn't mind. Aside from that, get ready for that sweet reunion tour in tiny venues and bar venues!

 

Ugh fuck those bands so hard. Phil Labonte has to be one of the dumbest dickheads in music, every time he opens his mouth it's like an avalanche of stupidity. Guy is basically what happens when a 9th grader edgelord discovers libertarianism.

FFDP are just garbage in every possible way. At least All That Remains had some decent-ish material early on.

 

Phil talking politics is like listening to your drunk conservative uncle at the Thanksgiving dinner, it's all bad. At least The Fall of Ideals had some cool songs on it or I'd completely forget about them.

 

Go ahead and forget about ATR. I posted about them a few months ago when I saw them live. I love a lot of their material (even later into their career) but my god they suck live now.

Is it just me or is this the most tonal clarity we've ever had in an Electric Wizard song? Haha. I like it though. Interesting production choice for them.

 

FWIW that article definitely does touch on something I've noticed a lot. In other metal communities and Facebook groups, to put it bluntly, wishing death on people is really common. And always under the guise of a "joke".

Example: I was once in a pretty big metal group on Facebook. I used to like it but grew to have misgivings with how caustic people were towards anything they didn't like. That being said, it was still uncommon to have fights or genuine hostility going around. But the final straw for me was when I made a post saying that I thought it would be cool to see The Acacia Strain cover a Traitors song. Within something like thirty minutes of making that post, I had received two comments. One simply said "No no no no no" like I had just suggested the most horrifyingly unforgivable act of inhumanity. The other simply read "Please die".

I just... I dunno, I know it's never serious, but I seriously have a problem with that sort of behavior (from anyone who isn't an IRL very close friend who's saying it to me after I make a shitty pun or something) and it really disheartens me to how common that is these days. It reminds me of the "kill yourself" meme culture that skid mark internet personalities like Leafy gave rise to and I think it really does lead to hostile environments and genuine hatred for people whose musical opinions aren't the same as yours - consciously or not.
