exactly. i respect the opinions of others that i disagree with as long as they're not coming from a place of complete ignorance or bigotry (typically, you're not going to find that in this thread, but I digress).

I can't stand Liturgy. Well maybe that has to do with the frontman.

 

I have no problem with Deafheaven, it's the idea that they're "saving black metal" or doing anything innovative that bugs me.

 

I have never heard that before, lol.

 

I'll openly admit that if it wasn't for New Bermuda, I would probably still be sleeping on black metal entirely.

 

Such an underrated record in general. I need a vinyl reissue to happen of this record at some point. I've been scrounging for a reasonably priced copy for years and haven't been able to find one. :/

I don't think for one second they "saved" black metal. I do give them credit for making it more accessible and being a gateway into other black metal artists and the various sub genres.

 

I've honestly never even seen that critique, that they're "saving" anything. I've admittedly had a difficult time getting into black metal, and I'm a fan. If they're a gateway to different bands, then who cares?

Not directed at anyone in here of course

 

They're arguably the most visible black metal/blackened act out there currently.

 

That's the only album historically that I've listened to and I love it.

I gotta give a huge thanks to all you guys for contributing. The Metallica debate is great and I think it all boils down to the fact that four albums alone is not enough to do them justice.

This new Bolt Thrower "In Battle There Is Now Law" cover comp from CVLT Nation is pretty dope. I'm especially a big fan of the offerings from Of Feather and Bone, Fuming Mouth, Cease, and Hissing.

it's specifically covers of songs that where on In Battle There is No Law. i agree with you - i'd love for a World Eater or Killchain cover to be on this.

Fuming Mouth is so sick, really hoping for an album soon

 

They had some lineup changes, and it set them back a bit. They did put out a promo release with a new track and that cover on it earlier this year:

This Alcest album is so up my alley.

 

Went through some of early Slayer. Reign in blood is indeed a master piece. I liked south of heaven after that actually but the album like rushes past you it's so quick. Then I'd go with show no mercy, like they had a very obvious sound they were going for but just needed more time and a little bit more song writing. I hated hell awaits though. Just, bad.

Then I listened to undisputed attitude just for fun, that's some time I wish I never wasted.

South of Heaven has always been my favorite Slayer album. They started messing around with different styles & song structures on that album and nailed it.

 

this might grow on me but I suspect some of you guys will really dig it. It's good.
